Summary
Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, advocacy, emotional support, and case management to sexual assault victims and their loved ones at any stage of their recovery process.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-call crisis intervention with adult and adolescent sexual assault victims, and their loved ones.
- Provide victim advocacy, case management, emotional support, outreach services, and online support services to teens and adults.
- Proactively offer to accompany victims throughout criminal and administrative proceedings and to other ancillary appointments including STD testing at health department meetings with college professor, landlord or employer depending on individual's request and needs for these services.
- Respond to off-site 24 hours a day for forensic exams at other hospitals.
- Be on-call during shift and participate in 24/7 on-call and hotline rotations.
- Provide information regarding their rights and options.
- Advise victims regularly on the status of their case.
- Provide information and assistance, as needed, regarding Victim's Compensation.
- Document services and prepare reports as needed, also work collaboratively with all community agencies involved in the client's recovery process.
- Participate in making presentations about the Roxy Bolton RTC services to medical staff, social service agencies, criminal justice system, and other community organizations.
- Provide the RTC program director with monthly statistical report by assigned date and assist with gathering information for quarterly reports, also assist with administering client satisfaction surveys that are used to evaluate the program.
- Assist with implementing plans for program development, and also with developing policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate regularly in team meetings, supervision meetings, staff meetings, workshops, conferences and other trainings as requested. Update community referral/resource manual.
- Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required.
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
- Bilingual Creole preferred.
- High School diploma is required.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
- Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
