What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Engineer position at Jackson Hewitt - Headquarters?
The Systems Engineer is a self-motivated, fully competent technologist who can work issues to resolution, implement solutions using the appropriate technology, and strives to improve existing processes and procedures. The Systems Engineering team is responsible for both traditional data center technology, as well as our constantly evolving cloud platforms in AWS and Microsoft M365.
What you’ll do here:
- Implement and support technologies, both on premises and in Jackson Hewitt’s public cloud infrastructure
- Collaborate with our development team, to implement and support cloud infrastructure to support our custom applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting our tax platform
- Support numerous established and new technologies within the Jackson Hewitt Technical Infrastructure
- Responsible for supporting and maintaining technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components
- Participation in a weekly on-call rotation with the other members of the Systems team is required.
- Actively participate in an Agile infrastructure team including daily standups, retrospectives, sprint planning, etc
What skills and experience you’ll bring for success:
- Associate degree in technology, or equivalent professional experience
- 3 years of implementing and supporting enterprise-class data center technology, including virtualization, storage and backup solutions
- 3 years of Windows Server administration and support
- 3 years of experience in Active Directory administration, including user and group management, Group Policy creation and management, and troubleshooting AD-related issues
- 1 years of experience deploying, and supporting, public cloud technology using scripting and automation, AWS preferred.
- Experience with creating, and supporting, automation scripts with preference towards PowerShell
- Experience with Puppet, Chef, or other configuration management tools
- Experience with system performance monitoring and fine-tuning
- Attention to detail, and a drive to be successful; ability to work independently with minimal supervision or assistance
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly communicate to both your customers and peers
