Position: Case Facilitator


Employment Status: Regular/Full-time


Reports to: Director of Special Programs/Building Principal


FLSA Status: Exempt


Description: Complete and maintain compliance with special education paperwork as well as support access for students with disabilities in school programming


NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

 

Essential Functions:
• Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
• Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
• Ensure safety of students
• Assist in coordinating the special education program for all students with disabilities assigned
• Assist in implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with unique needs
• Develop IEP’s for children; schedule IEP conferences
• Provide classroom teachers with resource information
• Assist coordination of activities between the school district and outside agencies
• Work with regular classroom teachers in supporting access to curriculum that would include accommodations and modifications per student’s IEP
• Prepare local, state and federal reports relative to areas of special education and pupil personnel services
• Participate in ETR meetings
• Attend IEP and facilitate IEP meetings, convenes, reconvenes
• Consult with regular education teacher concerning modifications, adaptations or alternate assignments in regular education classroom for special education students
• Assist with record keeping tasks and individual records of all children recommended to receive special education services or those enrolled in special education
• Adhere to rules and regulations regarding programs that relate to special education
• Assist in conducting programs for the identification of students with unique needs
• Maintain an accurate inventory of special education materials and equipment
• Represent the district at local, state and regional activities/committees as agreed to
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student IEP's, testing information, student and staff information
• Create IEP goals/objectives for students that aligned with ETR needs
• Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations as the facilitator of special education meetings
• Support strategies to accomplish individualized program goals
• Consult with regular classroom teacher concerning placement of potential students
• Support staff in creating curriculum as well as alternative teaching techniques/interventions and assessments to best enhance student learning
• Ensure compliance related to special education timelines
• Notify director or coordinator of any special needs/considerations related to transportation
• Coordinate with IEP to support student access to extra-curricular, co-curricular, class trips, class parties/special activities

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
• Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
• Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
• Disseminate information to building level from director/coordinator
• Create meeting agenda from parent or other team member concerns
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Act as a mentor for first-year teachers as agreed upon
• Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices
• Assist in selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
• Assist with the creation of supportive programming for student with behavioral needs
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Special Programs Director
• Train staff, students, and sometimes families on implementation of IEP

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university
• Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license
• Intervention Specialist certificate

• Experience Preferred
• Meet the applicable requirement of a “highly qualified” teacher
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing within assigned building as well as other levels within and outside of district
• Effective, active listening skills

• Knowledge of IDEA, Title I rules
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to operate school equipment
• Commitment to education
• Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
• Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
• Training in varied instructional design
• Background/knowledge base in methodology and supervised practice
• Knowledge of due process and other laws governing special education
• Ability to assess needs and write IEP’s that provide for those needs
• Knowledge of special education state and federal guidelines
• Change procedures immediately based on direction of director
• Communicate effectively with director, coordinator, other case facilitators, related service providers, and monitor attendants
• Ability to effectively communicate with parents/caregivers to gain understanding of concerns/worries and the strengths of their child in order to build meaningful participation in the process
• Leading in a problem-solving method to foster agreement and create next steps
• Leading a meeting so that all members are comfortable to meaningfully participate
