Position Summary
The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a Assistant Band Director/Instructor.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education
A Master’s degree required. Terminal degree in Music Performance, Conducting or Music Education preferred. Master’s degree required.
Minimum Required Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience is preferred and active artistic/performance at the local, national, and international levels.
- Percussionist preferred, but other applied instrumentalists will be considered.
- Experience teaching K-12 music for a minimum five (5) years.
- Demonstrated experience with recruitment, retention, and maintaining an outstanding applied studio.
- Ensemble coaching and programming experience.
- Demonstrated experience with conducting wind bands, teaching and designing marching drills. Experience with managing budgets and inventory.

Qualifications
Flexible schedule with ability to work with band’s performance and rehearsal schedule.
Skills and Abilities
Effective communication and organization skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain active recruitment for applied studio and marching band.
- Coordinate and coach ensembles and plan performances.
- Assist concert ensemble directors (wind ensemble, symphonic, concert band) organize and coach assigned ensemble(s).
- Teach undergraduate and graduate applied courses.
- Develop syllabi for all courses.
- Organize, oversee, facilitate and teach the “War & Thunder” drumline.
- Rehearse and conduct a concert ensemble.
- Able to write and teach traditional styled marching band drill.
- Compose, arrange and transcribe percussion cadences and parts for arrangements.
- Serve as occasional rehearsal technician for the marching band.
- Travel with the band to all performances.
- Oversee/facilitate the pep band.
- Other marching band duties as assigned by the Director of Bands and Chair of Department.
- Participate in faculty collaborative performances.
