Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Construction Accountant to join our team. This position plays a critical role in managing the financial health of our construction projects, ensuring accurate job cost tracking, subcontractor compliance, and timely financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of construction accounting experience, preferably in the civil/sitework sector, and be highly skilled in job cost accounting, progress billing, and subcontractor pay application management.
Duties
- Maintain accurate job cost records and track financial performance for multiple active projects.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including subcontractor pay applications, vendor invoices, and client billings.
- Prepare and distribute monthly job cost reports and assist project managers with cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Manage the preparation and submission of owner payment applications, including supporting documentation.
- Track and manage contracts, change orders, lien releases, insurance certificates, and subcontractor compliance documents.
- Monitor labor and payroll costs, certified payroll reports, and assist with labor cost allocations when necessary.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy, reconcile accounts, and assist with month-end closing processes.
- Communicate regularly with project managers, vendors, and clients to resolve financial discrepancies and ensure timely payment processing.
- Assist with audits, financial reviews, and year-end reporting requirements.
Skills
- 3–5 years of construction accounting experience required (civil construction preferred)
- Strong knowledge of job costing, progress billing, subcontractor pay applications, change order tracking, and financial reporting
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Foundation, , QuickBooks Contractor Edition, or similar)
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with project managers, vendors, and clients
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (or equivalent industry experience)
