Description

TITLE: Doris Duke Theatre Light Board Operator
STATUS: Seasonal
Full-Time, On-site:  May 20, 2025 - August 28, 2025
START: May 20, 2025
END: August 28, 2025
ARRIVAL: May 19, 2025
DEPARTURE: August 29, 2025
COMPENSATION: $18.45-$20.50; Overtime (time and a half) after 48 hrs
Room and board, free access to performances, classes, talks, and studios
HOURS: May 20 - May 31, 2025: (5) Day work week averaging 40 hrs
June 2 - August 28, 2025: (6) Day work week averaging 54 hrs
Hours will vary during The Festival depending on weekly schedules and all efforts will be made to provide 48 hours a week.

SUPPORTS: Production Interns; Full-Time and Seasonal Production Staff; Programming, Facilities, and Front-of-House Staff; Visiting Company Members; Faculty, Dancers and Staff of The School at Jacob’s Pillow
 
The Jacob’s Pillow Production Department seeks an electrician and light board operator to join its seasonal staff for the 2025 Summer Festival. The Doris Duke Theatre Light Board Operator reports to the Doris Duke Theatre Production Manager (DDT PM) and works closely and collaboratively with the other members of the Doris Duke Theatre Production Team and Festival Lighting Team to support all activity in the theater and its support spaces. With the guidance and management of the Lighting Supervisor and DDT PM, the DDT Light Board Operator assists in the installation, operation and maintenance of the DDT lighting system. During the pre-season, they also participate in the final planning and preparation for the DDT’s programming which includes nine visiting companies and a season-opening Gala Performance. During the festival the DDT Light Board Operator supports the visiting company’s technical staff by running the light board during focuses, technical rehearsals, and performances; as well as supporting the company’s lighting staff with all the programming needs. They also assist the DDT PM and DDT Electrician with the organization and maintenance of the DDT’s lighting infrastructure, storage areas, and equipment. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment.
  • Actively participate in the opening and closing of all of the Festival's performance spaces, studios, exhibition spaces, and temporary tents.
  • Actively participate in all assigned work calls.
  • Participate in all DDT technical rehearsals and performances as a member of the DDT run crew. 
  • Assist the DDT Electrician in the installation, maintenance, and operations of the DDT lighting system.
  • Ensure that the DDT lighting system is prepared and safe for all activity by leading daily and show-specific checks, maintenance, and set-up. 
  • Assist the Lighting Supervisor in making improvements to The Pillow’s lighting infrastructure, support areas, storage rooms, and equipment.
  • Keep show files stored and organized for archiving purposes.
  • Maintain clean and orderly lighting workspaces, backstage equipment, and storage areas in the DDT. 
  • Participate in the training of Production Interns by offering constructive guidance and by acting as a role model and supportive co-worker.
  • Support and assist with the installation, programming, and operation of the Season Opening Gala and special events as needed.
  • Support the installation of work into The Pillow’s exhibition spaces. 
  • Provide support to Jacob’s Pillow Media Team in documenting performances, talks, and events.
  • Attend departmental, production and all-staff meetings.
  • Under the general direction of the DoTP, assist with coordination of emergency response for staff and patrons in the event of an emergency or extreme weather
  • Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season)
  • Assist other departments, including non-production departments, as needed.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Collegiate or professional experience as a theatrical electrician and light board operator.
  • Proven ability to operate the EOS family of lighting consoles in work, rehearsal, and show conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of EOS programming language.
  • Proficiency with Moving Light Programming.
  • Experience with theatrical lighting systems, equipment, applications, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with Google App suite as well as Vectorworks, Lightwright, and other industry standard lighting applications. 
  • Knowledge of DMX, Ethernet, and wireless theatrical networks.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Knowledge and experience working in dance production.  
  • Experience working in live event production and with live light busking. 
  • Experience with wardrobe, audio or video systems, equipment, software, and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with GrandMA, High-End Systems, or ChamSys programming software
  • Familiarity with Augmented 3D software
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Driving trucks and cargo vans in urban and rural areas.
  • Experience with advanced production technology such as augmented reality, virtual reality, or robotics.
  • Experience working outdoors or in non-conventional performance venues or productions.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Working regularly in wooded areas with exposure to native wildlife including, but not limited to, rodents, ticks, and mosquitos.
  • Working regularly outdoors in all weather conditions including inclement weather. 
  • Working a 6-day work week including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
  • Moving equipment up to 50 lbs alone or with assistance.
  • Moving through and between multiple locations throughout the entire campus including over uneven terrain.
  • Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Working at a computer screen for multiple hours in a day. 
  • Working at heights above 6 feet and up to 30 feet.
  • Ascending and descending straight and step ladders.
  • Operating push around or drivable person lifts including at heights.
  • Working in show conditions with theatrical and atmospheric elements including but not limited to: fog, haze, strobes, dim lights, and loud sounds.
