Position Summary
The light & sound board operator will be expected to arrive at the theater for the daily crew call, usually 1 hour before the show begins, and stay until the audience has fully left the theater at the end of the performance. The board operator reports daily to the show’s stage manager(s) but is hired, trained, and supervised by the Production Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prior to each performance, start up and check the sound system and the headsets/radios;
- Operating the light and/or sound board by pressing the “go” button per the Stage Manager’s instructions;
- Participate in props & scenic intermission and/or post-show changes as needed;
- Assist the PM & TD in other production-related work (such as theater maintenance).
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics Sought
- Reliable transportation to the theaters at Shakespeare & Company on a daily basis;
- Consistent availability as a part of a show-running crew;
- An interest in working on live theater performance;
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others;
- Completion of a COVID-19 vaccine regimen and booster, if eligible, before employment term, and willingness to test weekly or more as per Company safety guidelines (at Company expense);
- Prior knowledge of the operating program QLab is NOT required, but certainly is a plus!
Compensation
This hourly, non-exempt, at-will employee will receive $15 per hour. Housing is not available with this contract. Overtime will be provided when weeks exceed 40 hours.
