STATUS: Seasonal

COMPENSATION: $23.58-$25.63; Overtime (time and a half) after 48 hrs
Room and board, free access to performances, classes, talks, studios
HOURS: February 3 - May 3, 2025: 5-10 hrs per week 
May 6 - May 31, 2025: (5) Day work week averaging 40 hrs
June 2 - August 28, 2025: (6) Day work week averaging 58 hrs
REPORTS TO: Director of Technical Production

SUPERVISES: Wardrobe Intern; TST and DDT Wardrobe Rooms; TST, DDT, Perles Family Studio and HJL dressing rooms
SUPPORTS: Ted Shawn Theatre (TST), Henry J Leir Stage (HJL) and Doris Duke Theatre (DDT) Wardrobe Technicians; Production Interns; Full-Time and Seasonal Production Staff; Programming and Facilities Staff; Visiting Company Members; Faculty, Dancers and Staff of The School at Jacob’s Pillow
 
Jacob’s Pillow seeks a WARDROBE SUPERVISOR to join the Production Department and work closely with/report directly to the Director of Technical Production (DoTP). The Wardrobe Supervisor directs and manages the Production Department’s Wardrobe team. They are responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of all costume and wardrobe elements of all activity within the Ted Shawn Theatre (TST), the Doris Duke Theatre (DDT), the Henry J. Leir Stage and The School at Jacob’s Pillow. During the pre-season they work closely with the Production Managers and other Department Heads to advance all upcoming productions and events as well as participate in interviews for seasonal staff members. During the Festival they supervise all of the wardrobe facilities and equipment as well as, manage and train overhire Wardrobe crew members. They will work closely and collaboratively with the TST, DDT and HJL Wardrobe Technicians to ensure they have the information, equipment, training and labor necessary to successfully support all activity on campus. The Wardrobe Supervisor will also train and mentor the Production Interns during their Wardrobe Supervisor rotation focusing on providing them a deeper knowledge of their position’s roles and responsibilities as well as the standard operating procedures of their department.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a safe, healthy and accessible work environment at all times.
  • Actively participate in communication with visiting companies to ensure clear communication about The Pillow’s facilities and equipment as well as to assess any additional equipment or labor that will be needed to execute each company’s vision.
  • Manage the organization, operation and maintenance of all wardrobe facilities and equipment in the DDT, TST, HJL as well as the Perles Family Studio including dressing rooms.
  • Assist in the creation of seasonal and production specific purchase and rental orders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Wardrobe related vendors working closely with the Production Administrator to facilitate purchase or rental deliveries, pick-ups or shipments.
  • Act as the primary Wardrobe point of contact for all visiting companies during the pre-season.
  • Collaborate with the TST, HJL and DDT Wardrobe Technicians and Production Managers to ensure that all team members have accurate wardrobe paperwork as well as the supplies and equipment needed.
  • Actively participate in the training and mentorship of the Production Intern Cohort including teaching hands on and practical classes and workshops.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care for visiting companies’ costumes including washing (machine and hand), drying (machine and line), steaming and minor repairs.
  • Advise the DoTP on any necessary improvements to The Pillow’s Wardrobe infrastructure and equipment.   
  • Maintain departmental and production specific budgets, paperwork and schedules as needed.
  • Oversee the creation of any necessary paperwork.
  • Remain in constant communication with all Production Managers to ensure proper and necessary support for each production or event.
  • Assist the Production Administrator in the scheduling of Seasonal Production Staff, Interns and overhire.
  • Actively participate in work calls, technical rehearsals or performances as needed including by acting as run crew as needed.
  • Actively participate in the planning and execution of seasonal opening and closing of the Festival's performance spaces, studios, exhibition spaces, and temporary tents.
  • Support and assist with the operation of the Season Opening Gala and special events as needed.
  • Under the general direction of the DoTP, assist with coordination of emergency response for staff and patrons in the event of an emergency or extreme weather
  • Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season)
  • Assist other departments, including non-production departments, as needed.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Minimum 4 years of related theatrical costume or wardrobe management experience 
  • Advanced knowledge and the ability to instruct others on theatrical costume and wardrobe equipment, systems, procedures and safety.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with laundry and fabric cleaning techniques and supplies.
  • Basic knowledge of costume and fashion history.
  • Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Proficiency with the Google App suite
  • Experience with budgeting and scheduling
  • Ability to work proactively, creatively, flexibly and collaboratively
  • Willingness to learn
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge and experience working in dance production.  
  • Experience working and/or teaching in a performing arts educational environment.
  • Experience managing outdoor or non-conventional performance venues or productions.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Working regularly in wooded areas with exposure to native wildlife including, but not limited to, rodents, ticks and mosquitos.
  • Working regularly outdoors in all weather conditions including inclement weather. 
  • Working a 6 day work week including early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
  • Moving equipment up to 50lbs alone or with assistance.
  • Moving through and between multiple locations throughout the entire campus.
  • Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Working at heights above 6 feet and up to 30 feet.
  • Ascending and descending straight and step ladders.
  • Operating push around or drivable person lifts including at heights.
  • Working in show conditions with theatrical and atmospheric elements including but not limited to: fog, haze, strobes, dim lights, loud sounds.
