Description

TITLE: Ted Shawn Theater Wardrobe Technician
STATUS: Seasonal
Full-Time, On-site:  May 20, 2025 - August 28, 2025
START: May 20, 2025
END: August 28, 2025
ARRIVAL: May 19, 2025
DEPARTURE: August 29, 2025
COMPENSATION: $20.50-$23.58; Overtime (time and a half) after 48 hrs
Room and board, free access to performances, classes, talks, and studios
HOURS: May 20 - May 31, 2025: (5) Day work week averaging 40 hrs
June 2 - August 28, 2025: (6) Day work week averaging 56 hrs
Hours will vary during The Festival depending on weekly schedules and all efforts will be made to provide 48 hours a week.

The Jacob’s Pillow Production Department seeks a wardrobe technician to join its seasonal staff for the 2025 Summer Festival. The Wardrobe Technician reports to the Ted Shawn Theatre Production Manager (TST PM) and works closely and collaboratively with the other members of Ted Shawn Theatre Production Team to support all activity in the theater and its support spaces. With the guidance and management of the Wardrobe Supervisor the Wardrobe Technician will lead the planning, preparation, and execution of the costume and wardrobe needs of all productions in the Ted Shawn Theatre (TST). During the pre-season, they also participate in the final planning and preparation for the TST’s programming which includes nine visiting companies and a season-opening Gala Performance. During the festival, the Wardrobe Technician is the visiting company’s primary wardrobe contact and will either work closely with their wardrobe supervisor or, using the provided paperwork, assume that role. They also assist the TST PM and Wardrobe Supervisor with the organization and maintenance of the TST’s wardrobe infrastructure, storage areas, and equipment. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment at all times.
  • Actively participate in the opening and closing of all of the Festival's performance spaces, studios, exhibition spaces, and temporary tents.
  • Actively participate in all assigned work calls.
  • Participate in all TST technical rehearsals and performances as a member of the TST run crew. 
  • Assist the TST PM and Wardrobe Supervisor in communication with visiting companies to ensure the details of their wardrobe needs are clear and accurate.  
  • Act as the primary wardrobe point of contact for all TST visiting companies during their time on campus.
  • Facilitate the maintenance and care for visiting companies’ costumes including washing (machine and hand), drying (machine and line), steaming, and minor repairs.
  • Assist in the set-up of the TST Wardrobe Room as well as the wardrobe and dressing rooms of all venues.
  • Ensure TST’s modular dressing rooms are set up prior to the arrival of the visiting companies based on the individual needs of each group.
  • Assist in any emergency costume repairs during performances.
  • Assist visiting companies with packing and load-out.
  • Create and maintain all necessary or assigned paperwork.
  • Remain in constant communication with the Wardrobe Supervisor to ensure proper and necessary support for the visiting companies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly costume shop, laundry area, and dressing rooms.
  • Participate in the training of Production Interns by offering constructive guidance and being a supportive co-worker.
  • Support and assist with the construction of costumes for the season-opening Gala and School Productions as needed.
  • Support the installation of work into The Pillow’s exhibition spaces. 
  • Support the activation of Weather Plans for HJL and other events and activities.
  • Attend departmental, production, and all-staff meetings.
  • Completion of Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Training (provided to all seasonal staff prior to the Festival).
  • Assist other departments, including non-production departments, as needed.

 

Qualifications


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Collegiate or professional experience as a wardrobe technician or wardrobe crew member. 
  • Knowledge of theatrical costume and wardrobe equipment, systems, and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with laundry and fabric cleaning techniques and supplies.
  • Proficiency with the Google App suite.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Knowledge and experience working in dance production.  
  • Experience working in a performing arts educational environment.
  • Experience working outdoors or in non-conventional performance venues or productions.
  • Valid driver’s license

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Working regularly in wooded areas with exposure to native wildlife including, but not limited to, rodents, ticks, and mosquitos.
  • Working regularly outdoors in all weather conditions including inclement weather. 
  • Working a 6-day work week including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
  • Moving equipment up to 50 lbs alone or with assistance.
  • Moving through and between multiple locations throughout the entire campus including over uneven terrain.
  • Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Working at heights above 6 feet and up to 30 feet.
  • Ascending and descending straight and step ladders.
  • Operating push around or drivable person lifts including at heights.
  • Working in show conditions with theatrical and atmospheric elements including but not limited to: fog, haze, strobes, dim lights, and loud sounds.
