Key Responsibilities
- Collects and records patient care data, adhering to format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies, and third-party payers, demonstrating an understanding of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care.
- Initial evaluation, daily notes, reassessments/progress reports, discharge plans, and communication with members of the team are essential duties.
- Accurate daily billing and adherence to department guidelines for productivity are also crucial.
- Preparation for evaluations involves obtaining patient history, exhibiting knowledge of patient diagnoses, and researching unfamiliar diagnoses.
- Tests and measures are selected and administered, while evaluation results are synthesized to formulate diagnosis, goals, prognosis, and plan of care.
- Treatment plans are established based on evaluation results, goals, and best practice, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and patient support systems.
- Modifications to plans of care and goals are assessed and re-assessed as needed.
- Consultations are initiated and completed, referring patients to other healthcare professionals or services when necessary.
- Discharge plans are implemented, and education/training is provided to patients and/or their support systems.
- Functional training includes ADLs/IADLs, therapeutic activities (e.g., transfers, bed mobility), rehabilitation equipment prescription and training, and community reintegration.
- Neurological interventions involve handling techniques, neurodevelopmental training, seating and positioning, vision/perception, cognitive rehabilitation, neuromuscular re-education, spasticity management, and behavioral management.
- Musculoskeletal interventions include therapeutic exercise, joint mobilization, and modalities.
- Providing accurate data, note writing using Prompt EMR for all treatments provided, and overseeing support staff (COTA, OT aides) are key responsibilities.
- Attending annual JAG PT Billing and Coding seminars, presenting facility-level in-services annually, and promoting JAG PT in the community through lectures/presentations are additional duties.
- Demonstrating respectful interactions with patients, colleagues, and others is essential.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree required; Doctorate degree preferred.
- Licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Completed state-regulated CEU requirement in appropriate state (NY, NJ).
- Valid CPR License.
- Experience/knowledge with an EMR software is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills.
- At least one year of professional OT experience.
- Excellent work ethic and dedication to patient success.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and individually with minimal supervision.
- Positive, professional demeanor at all times.
