What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Safety Coordinator position at Jagoe-Public?
REQUIRED: Proficiency in Spanish and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages is required.
Responsibilities for Safety Coordinator
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures while ensuring that they are being followed daily.
- Conduct project site safety inspection, and complete inspection reports on a regular basis, discuss any deficiencies with site supervisor and help resolve deficiencies on the project.
- Conduct safety training with existing employees and conduct new hire orientation training.
- Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation.
- Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.
- Investigate accidents that occur onsite and identify possible causes of the accident and ensure that incidents are documented and reported according to company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents, and related events
- Any other required tasks.
Qualifications for Safety Coordinator
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Valid drivers license with good driving record required, and be able to pass a drug, alcohol, and physical exam.
- Experience with Word, Excel, and computer literacy required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, training, and presentation in English and Spanish required.
- Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA, MSHA, TCEQ, and TxDot.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
- People skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees, project managers and project owners, ability to interact with all levels of employees.
- Understanding of how to read construction TCP plans, ideally having particularly good knowledge of TxDot traffic control plans and requirements for implementing traffic control.
- Ensure that all traffic control measures comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify the proper setup and maintenance of traffic control devices and that all company safety policies are followed.
- Leadership skills, such as the ability to positively motivate fellow employees and the ability to provide feedback to management with recommendations for improvement.
