Job Description

Law firm seeks an Educational Advocate to represent special needs children in D.C. Preferred candidate should have a MASTER'S degree in Special Education or related discipline. The candidate would be able to work remotely until DC quarantine guidelines re: COVID-19 have been adjusted for in-office work.

We are a small boutique law firm in downtown DC with a staff of 25 employees. We specialize in representing children with special education needs. The majority of our clients come from indigent families. We are seeking an educational advocate to partner with our legal staff to represent special needs children in the District of Columbia.

The preferred candidate should have a Master's Degree in special education or a related discipline. The duties aligned to this position are attending and representing parents at IEP meetings, which will necessitate the candidate to have the ability to read and interpret the reasoning in such evaluations as: psychological, speech/language, vocational, and other mental health assessments. The ideal candidate should have meaningful experience attending/reviewing IEPs. Also, is expected to be able to review educational files, and effectively communicate with students, parents, attorneys and others in the community and be able to testify as an expert accurately and persuasively at adversarial administrative due process hearings.

This is a fast paced environment, so the prospective employee must be well organized, detailed oriented, able to take meticulous notes, hardworking and eager to learn.

Reliable transportation (VEHICLE) is required. Free indoor parking provided.

Starting salary $56K nonnegotiable with excellent benefits
