Job Description:
Under direct supervision of the school Principal, will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate school program meeting the unique needs of Special Education students.
Essential Job Tasks:
- Provide specialized instruction to students to meet the goals and objectives as developed in the IEP.
- Assess individual students to determine present levels of performance.
- Participate as a member of the IEP team.
- Implement the IEP with appropriate lesson plans, materials and classroom strategies and prepare Individualized Education programs.
- Use effective behavior management techniques to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Prepare schedules and timelines to implement classroom activities.
- Observe and make ongoing evaluation of student’s academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports and communicate with parents on the individual student’s progress.
- Cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Mainstream children into integrated settings for maximum interaction with peers.
- Create a functional and attractive environment for learning through room displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Plan and coordinate the work of instructional aides.
- Work with other age appropriate professionals and teachers to develop individual behavioral programs.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice educational activities, provided by the county office and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Age appropriate developmental levels;
- Curriculum and lesson plan development to meet IEP goals;

- Communicate orally and in writing with staff, parents and community.
- Instruct special education instructional aide in teaching techniques to achieve IEP goals;
- Understand and relate to children with special needs;
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
- Maintain records, compile and verify data and prepare reports;
- Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions;
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;
- Work independently with little direction;
- Meet schedules and timelines;
- Work with teachers/aides to develop individual behavior programs;
- Work cooperatively with support services including instructional aide, physical and occupational therapist, speech therapist, adaptive physical education specialist, psychologist and school nurse.
- Bachelors or higher degree
- Valid California Education Multiple Subject Credential
- Valid Education Specialist Credential, or enrolled/eligible for enrollment in a special education program leading toward a teaching certificate in Special Education.
- EL authorization (BCLAD/CLAD) is required or eligibility for proper authorization from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
