The ideal candidate should be able to act as a role model to those who are on their journey in recovery. They must be willing to share their personal recovery story when it is necessary, and also advocate for their clients and encourage personal responsibility throughout the clients recovery. Our Peer Support Specialist should be willing to learn how to use motivational interviewing and effective problem-solving techniques to help clients achieve their goals, by facilitating groups or in a one-on-one setting.
This role will require the ability to collaboratively work with the Treatment Court team and other community partners to ensure comprehensive support for clients. A working knowledge of basic computer systems is a must as this position will need to be able to complete timely and accurate notes for all client encounters.
Pay rates offered are determined based on a standardized scale that considers relevant experience and education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A past consumer of mental health or substance abuse services
- A willingness to self-identify as a person in recovery with a history or managing one’s own illness and navigating the court system.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have or be willing to obtain within first year of employment the State of Alaska Peer Specialist certification
- If you do not have it, JAMHI will sponsor your certification
All JAMHI positions require the ability to pass a criminal background check in accordance with the current state regulation requirements and a valid Alaska driver’s license and be able to clear the JAMHI auto insurance screening through the independent insurance carrier if driving.
