Nursery & Horticultural Manager with Project Management Responsibilities
Position Overview: Jamie’s Landscaping is seeking a dedicated and versatile Nursery & Horticultural Manager who will oversee daily nursery operations and ensure the highest quality of plants and landscaping materials. During downtime, this role will also double as a Project Manager, requiring travel to support various projects. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for horticulture, customer satisfaction, and project coordination, with strong leadership and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Nursery Management:
- Oversee planting, growing, and maintenance of nursery stock, ensuring plant health and quality.
- Manage inventory levels, purchasing, and preparation of materials for landscape projects.
- Hire, train, and lead nursery staff, emphasizing safety and best horticultural practices.
- Provide exceptional customer service by offering expert advice on plant care and selection.
- Maintain nursery facilities, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and compliance with regulations.
- Utilize design skills (e.g., Dynascape) to assist with creating customer landscape designs when required.
Project Management:
- Coordinate and oversee landscape projects during downtime, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
- Travel to project sites as needed, supporting project teams and ensuring alignment with customer expectations.
- Collaborate with designers, architects, and landscape teams to source and prepare materials for installations.
- Act as a liaison between clients and teams, resolving issues and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
- Manage budgets for nursery operations and projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Stay updated on horticultural trends, techniques, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop marketing strategies to promote nursery sales and customer engagement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Botany, Landscape Design, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- 5 years of experience in nursery management or horticulture.
- Strong knowledge of plant species, cultivation techniques, and pest management.
- Experience in project management, including scheduling and team coordination.
- Proficiency in landscape design software (e.g., Dynascape) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel and adapt to different environments as needed.
- Commercial Pesticide License a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions, including high temperatures and humidity.
- Comfortable performing hands-on tasks such as watering, pruning, and handling plants.
