Assistant Softball Coach

Job Overview
This position will be splitting time between our Junior High program and our Varsity/Junior Varsity program for both practices and games. This position will work closely with the Varsity Coach for player development techniques and expectations. The position is expected to motivate and encourage players at all levels along with contuniuing to help players learn and grow through softball and life skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Know and follow all district policies and procedures.
• Ensure that all policies and procedures are explained and communicated to the athletes.
• Enforce all policies and emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Represent the school and program in a positive way at all times.
• Exhibit loyalty to the other coaches, the players, and to JWP Softball Program
• Maintain a safe environment for athletes at all times.
• Establish clear expectations for the players on your team.
• Interact with athletes, fellow coaches, parents, and officials in a courteous and professional manner.
• Attend all practices and games regularly and be punctual.
• Travel on the bus with the team both to and from events.
• Maintain and keep secure confidential files, records and correspondence regarding any athlete or coach involved in the program.
• Submit a list of award winners for your individual team at the end of the season.
• Assist head coach with supervising of athletes during practices and at home and away games.
• Maintain the equipment room and office space and assume responsibility for its security.
• Ensure that medical and safety requirements are followed and adhere to established procedures in the event of an injury.
• Be in attendance and participate in events associated with the program such as: parent recognition nights, senior night, pep rallies, awards banquets, etc.
• Support the ideas, strategies, vision, and direction for the program set forth and established by the head coach.
• Respect time allotted for individual team practice as determined by the Head Coach.
• Perform the following when directed to by the Head coach
• Supportive tasks such as: distributing forms, equipment, uniforms and other supplies
• Communication duties with players or parents regarding practice times, bus departure, and schedule changes.
• Stat and record keeping duties.
• Attend all scheduled coaches meetings.
• Organize individual and small group practice activities and exercises.
• Provide suggestions to the head coach on game strategy.
• Assist with the instruction of players.
• Assess player abilities, skills, and play during practice and competition and inform the head coach of your assessment.
• Attend games for scouting purposes and provide feedback on how to prepare for opponents.
• Assist with off-season programs such as coaching summer league, helping with summer camps, and supervising open gyms.
