POSITION SUMMARY : The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an integral member of the Jannus’ Operations Team which includes the CEO, Human Resources Director, Systems Administrator, Office Manager, CPO, and Grants Manager. The operations team provides strategic and operational support for Jannus. In addition, the position will foster cultural leadership emphasizing team building, motivation, support, cross training and professional development for the Fiscal department. Impeccable service, partnership, collaboration, effective communication and relationship building are paramount. Technical responsibilities include oversight and / or direct responsibility for accounting, finance, banking, investing / cash management, budgeting, financial reporting, risk management / insurance, contracting, cost allocations and implementation and maintenance of solid accounting policies and procedures. While this is a full-time (40 hours per week) position it is understood that accounting functions and deadlines are cyclical and will require adaptability and flexibility in scheduling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Proactively provide financial and operational analysis, recommendations, input, problem solving and support to the Leadership Team, Board of Directors and program directors in the strategic decision-making process regarding financial implications of business activities and long-term sustainability of the organization.
- Evaluate the financial and business capacity implications and assess organizational and program risks of new and expanding business and service offerings and expanding existing or implementing new revenue streams.
- Continuously improve the company’s financial processes and systems to gain efficiency, with an emphasis on automating systems.
- Oversee and support all financial related activities including accounting, finance, budgeting, banking, investing / cash management, internal and external financial reporting, and cost allocations.
- Completion of annual audits and tax returns.
- Lead the Finance Committee and provide all financial related reporting, information and support to the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure they fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities of a nonprofit.
- Provide risk analysis and assessment of potential and emerging issues with significant financial consequences and ensure mitigation plans are in place to address risks.
- Managing the organization’s portfolio of business insurance policies.
- Maintain, ensure, and create consistent application of current financial policies and procedures across the organization to meet applicable laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Oversee compliance requirements of both public and private funding sources and financial institutions.
- Manage cash flows for operations and ensure appropriate accounting and allocation of investment funds, including endowment.
- Oversee and provide project management of SOC 2 audit and other cyber security needs and audits.
- Lead, supervise and support up to 3-4 direct reports, including recruiting, training / professional development, performance management and support their continuous growth through delegation, cross training and new opportunities.
- Build and maintain professional internal and external relationships.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
EDUCATION : Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related degree and equivalent experience required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Certified Public Accountant a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Works in a hybrid model of general office environment and remote work (up to 50%).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Sitting, standing, walking, repeated hand and wrist motions (for computer use) are required.
