Description

The Director of HR at Japan Society will be a critical operational leader focused on the day-to-day management and execution of the organization's HR function. This individual will oversee and streamline human resources processes, ensuring that the organization's people-related systems are effective, efficient, and aligned with Japan Society's mission and operational needs. The role's focus will include talent acquisition, onboarding, employee development, performance management, and HR compliance, while also supporting the growth and evolution of the organization's culture.

The Director will report directly to Japan Society's Senior Vice President and work closely with staff and leadership to ensure that both talent and systems in place support the organization's strategic objectives. This individual will also help create a productive and inclusive work environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day HR operations, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, HR compliance and retention strategies.
  • Maintain and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, organizational needs, and non-profit industry best practices.
  • Streamline and manage the recruitment and hiring processes, ensuring timely and efficient staffing across all departments.
  • Develop and implement employee performance management systems, ensuring clarity in expectations, feedback, and development opportunities for staff.
  • Manage compensation and benefits administration, ensuring the organization remains competitive in the labor market and supports recruitment and retention goals.
  • Ensure that all HR processes and systems are running efficiently, including the development of standard operating procedures and employee-related documentation.
  • Regularly review and improve HR technology and systems to increase efficiency, accuracy, and ease of use.
  • Provide tactical HR support to department managers on staff management, addressing any employee relations issues and guiding performance improvement plans.
  • Manage employee training and development programs to enhance skills and leadership capabilities within departments.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and equitable workplace by ensuring HR practices are aligned with diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives.
  • Coordinate internal communication on HR matters and policies, ensuring transparency and clarity for all staff members.
  • Support organizational growth by ensuring HR systems can scale and evolve with the needs of the organization.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure the effective integration of HR systems with broader organizational operations.
