The Finishing Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Finishing Department, which includes Bindery, Inserting, Commingle, and Envelope production. This role ensures efficient workflow, quality control, adherence to production schedules, and team management in a high-volume print production and direct mailing environment. The manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensure safety compliance, and maintain customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality, on-time results.
Key Responsibilities :
Operational Oversight :
- Manage and oversee Bindery, Inserting, Commingle, and Envelope production operations, ensuring all processes are executed efficiently and meet quality standards.
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet deadlines, ensuring optimal equipment utilization and labor allocation.
- Monitor workflows and address bottlenecks or operational inefficiencies.
Team Leadership :
Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, team leads, and production staff.Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback for growth.Ensure proper staffing levels and provide training for new hires or cross-training opportunities.Quality Assurance :
Ensure all finished products meet customer specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.Collaborate with the Quality Team to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.Maintain quality control documentation and drive process improvements.Continuous Improvement :
Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, and productivity enhancement.Drive lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives within the department.Utilize metrics and KPIs to monitor performance and develop improvement strategies.Safety and Compliance :
Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing company policies and OSHA standards.Ensure employees are trained in proper safety protocols and procedures.Conduct regular safety audits and address any identified risks.Equipment Maintenance :
Work with the Maintenance Team to ensure all equipment is operating at peak performance.Schedule routine maintenance and minimize downtime during production hours.Collaboration and Communication :
Collaborate with other departments (Prepress, Scheduling, Pressroom, Logistics, etc.) to ensure smooth handoffs and accurate production.Communicate with customer service representatives as needed to clarify production requirements or address issues.Qualifications :
Education :Degree in Business, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Experience :5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of Bindery, Inserting, Commingle, and Envelope production processes a plus.Skills :Proven ability to manage and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.Proficient in using production management software and tools.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.Physical Requirements :
