Position Summary for Fabrication Shop Lead :
The Shop Lead plays a critical leadership role on the fabrication floor, overseeing daily production activities and ensuring that all work meets or exceeds quality, safety, and schedule requirements. This individual will serve as the primary resource for technical expertise in both welding operations and modular pipefitting and staging to be delivered out to project site(s)—offering guidance, training, and support to the team. An R-Stamp certification (or the ability to obtain one) is highly preferred, as it reflects a strong background in pressure vessel and boiler repair work.
Key Responsibilities of Fabrication Shop Lead :
- Provide day-to-day oversight of fabrication and welding personnel, ensuring that the team adheres to project timelines, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Assign and track work orders, maintain clear communication on job status, and serve as the point of contact for project leads, Superintendents, Project Managers, and Quality Control staff.
- Mentor and train junior welders, pipefitters, and helpers, ensuring skill development and progression.
- Utilize advanced pipefitting and welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW) to assemble, tack, and weld piping systems, pressure vessels, and structural components as needed.
- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and P&IDs to ensure accurate layout, fit-up, and weld execution.
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues, propose practical solutions, and implement necessary adjustments to achieve project specifications and code compliance.
- Work closely with quality inspectors and engineers to ensure all welds meet applicable codes (ASME, API, etc.) and project standards.
- Verify that all shop and field fabrication activities comply with company procedures, safety guidelines, and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work completed, including weld maps, material traceability, and quality assurance records.
- Champion a safety-first environment, ensuring compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, audit work areas for hazards, and uphold a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment.
