What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cutter/Grinder - Second Shift position at Jarvis Airfoil, Inc.?
Job Purpose:
Responsible for sharpening various types of milling cutters, drills, taps or turning tools as required, manufacturing special form relieved cutters, maintaining inventory of cutter grinding supplies. Perform routine maintenance on equipment including CNC and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Maintains quality standards and records quality results.
Duties:
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques to maximize the effective manufacture of distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment they will need in order to do the job properly.
- The skill to conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Must be detail oriented and meticulous and have excellent communication skills. Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Have full understanding of the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.
- The Tool Grinder needs the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- Needs the ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time. Needs the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce viable answers.
Skills/Qualifications:
Analyzing Information, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)beneficial
Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, analytical and shop math skills, as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Ability to use measuring equipment – calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, depth gauges, & size blocks.
Required experience:
4-5 years’ manufacturing experience
Aerospace experience helpful
0-5 years’ Cutter Operator and Die Cutting experience

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
