REPORTS TO: Principal

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

To provide the leadership and expertise required to ensure that the Jasper County Primary School library media program aligns with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and is an integral component of the school's instructional program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Media Coordinator is responsible for ensuring students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information. Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. Instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information. Collaborate with teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons, units of instruction, assess student learning and instructional effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Experience with instruction on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process
• Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources
• Expertise in instructional technology
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students and staff
• Experience with developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based teaching and learning
• Demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of all learners
• Ability to supervise and train Library Media Center/Learning Commons staff
• Leadership, organizational, and budget management skills

TASKS

1. Create and implement a vision for the Library Media Center/Learning Commons and Maker Space (including furniture selection- alternative seating and shelving).
2. Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resource use through activities including book clubs, reading programs, reading initiatives, and other special
3. Work as an instructional partner by collaborating with teachers in preparing and delivering lessons that incorporate effective use of information resources and build information literacy and reading
4. Work as part of a team to integrate library/media resources with grade level curriculum content.
5. Collaborate with teachers and students to design and implement Maker Space lessons.
6. Meet the diverse and developmental learning needs of Jasper County Primary School learners.
7. Manage day-to-day media center activity including new book processing, book repair, shelving books, and reorganizing shelves.
8. Evaluate, select, and order new library materials, including audio-visual materials, digital text, and hardware and software.
9. Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
10. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instruct teachers and students in the use of the system.
11. Supervise and train support staff, which may include educational media assistants, computer education assistants, paraprofessionals, and student
12. Oversee Maker Space as an extension within the Library Media Center/Learning Commons.
13. Provide basic technology support to faculty, staff, and students.
14. Collaborate with the community library on projects and initiatives, including the Summer Reading Program.
15. Support readers' online access, including management of subscriptions and passwords for programs such as Accelerated Reader and Myon.
16. Share with the learning community up-to-date District policies concerning such issues as material selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use.
17. Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
18. Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, the teaching styles, and the instructional strategies used within the school community.
19. Prepare, justify, and administer the school library and Maker Space program budget to support specific program goals.
20. Collect and analyze data to periodically evaluate the school library media program for continuous improvement against measurable goals and communicate program results with administrators, staff, and the

24. Implement and supervise a daily newscast for JCPS to include announcements, events, and successes of the school. Operation of proper technology is an expectation of the media specialist.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Georgia Media Specialist certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification in Instructional Technology and/or Early Childhood Education.
