General Summary of the Position
Works closely with project management process, participating in project meetings, establishing project standards and assisting in the development of the project design criteria. Conducts pipe stress analysis and providing mechanical engineering expertise for piping systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (following are accountabilities included but not limited to):
- Perform pipe stress analysis and mechanical engineering calculations for natural gas piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Performs equipment inspections at vendor and jobsite locations.
- Working knowledge in mechanical equipment data sheets, specifications, requisitions, and drawings with sufficient detail to define the equipment scope and technical requirements.
- Perform static and dynamic analysis of piping systems using software tools such as Caesar II or similar.
- Performs pipe wall thickness calculations.
- Provides mechanical engineering support to project, fabrication, and construction teams.
- Interfaces with project management, engineering, design, and I&E on a regular basis to provide engineering support, resolve pipe stress-related issues, and ensure the integrity and reliability of piping systems.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to pipe stress and mechanical engineering in the natural gas sector.
- Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and Piping Isometrics.
- Ability to create and maintain equipment specifications and requisition requirements.
- Ability to review and approve vendor calculations and drawings.
- In-depth knowledge of pipe stress analysis principles, codes, and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, API 579, etc.).
- Knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices in pipe stress and mechanical engineering. Knowledge of other related codes and standards considered a plus.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in analyzing and preparing technical requirements.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Critical thinking with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to price various options and present cost estimates for proposals in an easily understood format using Excel spreadsheets. Experience in the preparation of proposals and presentations.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish work goals.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Familiarity with 3D drafting software.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; PE license preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pipe Stress/Mechanical Engineer in the natural gas industry, with a focus on pipe stress analysis and design.
- Experience with pipe stress analysis software and tools, including proficiency in Caesar II or similar software.
- CAD experience a plus.
Work Context
- Regularly works in the Corporate Office in Whitehouse, TX or Tulsa, OK but may be required to visit fabrication facilities or client locations as needed. At those locations, must be able to work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and other particles.
