What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cellar Worker position at Jaxon Keys Winery?
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Cellar Worker to join our outstanding Jaxon Keys Winery team! The Cellar Worker plays a vital role in the production of our premium wines working under the supervision of the Winemaker and Cellar Master. The Cellar Worker is responsible for various crush and wine processing duties, as well as for the operation of general and complex winery equipment throughout all phases of the winemaking process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily maintenance and sanitation of all areas; perform tank washing, sterilization of cellar, barrel rooms, crush pad, and all cellar equipment.
- Assist with product processing including chemical additions, pump-overs, wine transfers, pressing, racking, topping, fermentation monitoring, and draining and shoveling tanks.
- Provide support with barrel preparation including filling and/or emptying, sanitation, and inventory movement.
- Aid in all aspects of bottling process including working any station of the bottling line: wine transfer, capsule applicator, label application, dumping station, packing cases, and stacking.
- Operate and care for filters, pumps, presses, hoses, and other cellar equipment.
- Conduct all harvest activities including cleaning grapes, sorting, crushing, and processing juice.
- Contributes to a safe work environment by following all safety procedures.
- Wear required PPE and practice safe handling of chemicals
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year hands-on, working knowledge of winery cellar operating procedures.
- Previous experience/certification with fork-lift and pallet-jack preferred.
- Self-motivated with a high level of accountability and productivity.
- Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities.
- Highly organized with excellent follow-up and follow through.
- Acute attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and also independently.
- Ability to lift/push/pull/move 75 lbs. on a repetitive basis.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
- Able to understand and execute all work instructions and safety procedures.
Language Skills:
- Fluent in Spanish. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
Mathematical Skills:
- Able to perform basic calculations and conversions such as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, decimals, percentages, and measurements.

The Cellar Worker performs heavy physical labor on a regular, continuous basis. The Cellar Worker must be able to lift/move/carry a minimum of 75 lbs. on a repetitive basis and be capable of working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week during harvest (schedule will include both weekend and overtime hours). The Cellar Worker must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, reach, squat, climb, enter and exit tanks safely. Must be comfortable working at heights, using chemicals, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly working in a combination of an outdoor and indoor cellar environment. Temperature and humidity can fluctuate. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may rise during equipment use. Occasional exposure to gasses and dust.
