COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR

JB Steel is looking for a Commercial Construction Estimator

Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate for the position of Commercial Construction Estimator will possess a keen eye for detail, exceptional analytical skills, and strong proficiency in estimating software and tools. This individual will have extensive experience in the construction industry, particularly in the commercial sector. They will be adept at interpreting architectural drawings and specifications, and will have a solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations. The candidate will excel in communicating with clients, subcontractors, and team members, ensuring that all estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project goals.

Your workday might look like this

• Prepare Detailed Cost Estimates: Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Review Project Plans and Specifications: Analyze architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine project requirements and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Conduct Site Visits: Perform site visits to gather essential information, assess site conditions, and validate project scope and feasibility.
• Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure that estimates align with project objectives and budgets.
• Obtain and Evaluate Subcontractor Bids: Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all proposals are competitive and meet project requirements.
• Maintain Estimating Software and Databases: Utilize and update estimating software and databases to ensure that all data is accurate and up-to-date.
• Prepare and Present Proposals: Develop and present detailed proposals, highlighting key project details, costs, and timelines.
• Monitor Industry Trends: Stay informed about industry trends, construction methods, and material costs to ensure that estimates remain competitive and accurate.
• Support Project Management: Assist project managers in developing budgets, schedules, and resource plans based on the prepared estimates.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with commercial construction estimating or a similar role.
• Demonstratable Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or PlanSwift, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in estimating and cost analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Thorough understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry standards.
• Proven track record of delivering accurate and timely estimates.

You’ll really stand out if you have

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications.
• The ability to speak both English and Spanish.
