JB Steel is looking for a Structural Steel Detailer

Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate for the position of Structural Steel Detailer will be a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in structural steel detailing including detailing structural & miscellaneous Steel and Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings.

The Structural Steel Detailer is responsible for creating detailed drawings and plans for the fabrication and erection of steel frameworks used during construction. As well as the design/detail of stairs, guardrail, and miscellaneous metal products from structural/architectural drawings following all applicable building codes. This person should possess excellent technical drawing abilities, a keen eye for detail, and a thorough understanding of construction and fabrication processes.

The ideal candidate will also be proficient in using industry-standard CAD software and have excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, and construction teams.

Your workday might look like this

• Create Detailed Drawings: Develop accurate and comprehensive drawings using CAD software, detailing the specifications and dimensions of steel structures.
• Collaborate with engineering, architectural and construction teams to ensure drawings meet project requirements and specifications.
• Review Project Specifications: Analyze project plans and blueprints to understand the scope and requirements of the steel structures to be detailed.
• Material List Preparation: Generate material lists and bill of materials for the steel components, ensuring all necessary parts are accounted for.
• Quality Assurance: Verify the accuracy of drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Shop Drawings: Prepare detailed shop drawings for fabrication, including connection details, welding requirements, and other necessary information.
• Field Support: Provide technical support to construction teams during the erection process, addressing any issues or discrepancies that arise.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the quality and efficiency of detailing work.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel detailing, preferably in the construction industry.
• Proficiency in using CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar industry-standard tools.
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, construction methods, and industry standards (e.g., AISC, AWS).
• Excellent technical drawing and drafting skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve detailing issues.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.

You’ll really stand out if you have

• A Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Certifications such as NISD Individual Detailer Certification or similar.
• Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes.
• Experience with Strumis steel fabrication software.
• The ability to speak both English and Spanish.
