Principal Responsibilities:
Title: Camp Director
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Schedule: Monday- Friday
Status: Seasonal full-time, with part-time year round
The Opportunity:

As the Camp Director, you'll be the driving force behind an exciting 8-week summer camp, including a variety of specialty camps, and a robust travel program. This role offers the chance to lead a dedicated team and create transformative experiences that inspire, empower, and positively impact the lives of children, teens, and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Leadership
- Recruit, train, and supervise 30 team members including Asst. Camp Director, Unit Heads, Specialists, Counselors, Jr. Counselors, Camp Medic, Head Lifeguard, and Behavior Management Specialist.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes character development, teamwork, and fun.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with families, schools, and community partners to build program engagement.
- Program Development and Delivery
- Design, implement, and continuously evaluate to ensure high quality offerings that meet the community's needs.
- Create innovative activities that support child development, leadership skills, social-emotional learning, and recreational enjoyment.
- Oversee budget planning, financial tracking, and resource allocation to support program stability.
- Manage registration process, program enrollment, and accurate reporting on participation and outcomes.
- Work closely with Facilities Director to ensure all program spaces are properly maintained and prepared for camp activities.
- Administration and Operations
- Manage daily operations of camp programs, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations through DOH.
- Plan, document, and clearly communicate a robust travel camp program.
- Oversee budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation for all camp programs.
- Administer registration process, monitor enrollment, and maintain accurate program records and reports.
- Work closely with Facilities Director to ensure facilities and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and ready for program use.

- Develop and implement a year-round strategy to ensure successful recruitment and retention of campers in a competitive market.
- Attend and provide support at JCC-wide events including, but not limited to: Purim Carnival, Gala, Open Houses, etc.
- Other duties as needed to provide support for overall operations of the JCC.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, youth development, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in youth programming, camp leadership, or related roles.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, including staff evaluation and development.
- Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating camp programs.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, financial planning, and administrative tasks effectively.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices.
- Experience with outdoor education and recreational programming preferred.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in dynamic environments.
- Passion for youth development and creating memorable, positive experiences for young people.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Since its inception in 1927, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Binghamton, NY has grown to become an essential part of the Broome County community. As a full-service, non-profit organization, the JCC provides educational, cultural, recreational, and physical fitness programs to enhance the quality of life for all ages, from infants to senior citizens. As a non-sectarian United Way partner, the Center welcomes participants regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or ability to pay.
The JCC's facility houses a natatorium with a 2250 sq. ft. pool, gymnasium, fitness center, men's and women's health clubs, steam, sauna, a fitness loft with spin bikes and Pilates reformers, auditorium, and more. Over 200 children are served daily at our award-winning Early Childhood Center. Our year-round educational childcare includes UPK, after-school program, summer camp, and youth sports offerings.
The 8-acre land also features outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts, pavilion, nature preserve, soccer field, and three age-appropriate playground facilities.
