GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Safety Coordination will support the operations activities of the health center under the supervision of the Safety Officer. The Safety Coordinator will assist with the coordination of multiple operational projects, including transferring of vaccines using VFC protocols, eliminating or managing general safety risks, improving safety performance, address areas of risk management which would include general safety, security, hazardous material and waste (HMW), fire safety, medical/dental equipment and utilities within InclusivCare clinics/sites. The Safety Coordinator will ensure compliance with regulations and implement best practices, to create a safe and healthy work environment for all staff under the direction of the Safety Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and preserve solid working connections with management and team members, such as the Site Managers and other employees of the health center under the direction of the Safety Officer.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally, and in a timely manner with both internal and external constituents, including health center staff and vendors.
  • Adhere to all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensure equipment is serviced in accordance with manufacture/policy recommendations.
  • Support workplace safety initiatives and programs by educating staff on the importance of reporting safety concerns, offering solutions to safety issues reported, completing safety surveys for all sites.
  • Participate in vaccine management procedures, such as moving vaccines in accordance with VFC guidelines to handle vaccination stocks securely to avoid vaccine waste.
  • Assign and schedule preventative maintenance as directed by the Safety Officer.
  • Provide guidance to the maintenance and housekeeping staff on safety concerns as directed by the Safety Officer. Report any safety concerns to the Safety Officer within one hour.
  • Coordinates supply chain management activities for all clinics as directed by the Safety Officer. Assist the Safety Officer with ordering processes and managing inventory.
  • Perform weekly clinic safety checks at each clinic location.
  • Maintenance of Dental and Medical SDS Manual
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, organizational committees, in-service meetings, and professional conferences.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and in-services as required and/or assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of established organizational policies and procedures: Joint Commission objectives relating to safety, Emergency Management, Workplace Violence, Performance Improvement Plan, Environment of Care, and Infection Prevention.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred; in lieu of college degree (5 years of managerial experience within a clinical setting will suffice)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Complete an annual safety driving course
  • Complete an OSHA 10hr or 30hr training course
  • Proficient with MS Office software, and other computer applications including email and internet
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytic skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrate proficient multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical best Practices
  • Working knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers, safety programs and best Practices, purchasing and procurement best Practices, and concepts in facility management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of clinic Management, Safety Evacuation Plan and OSHA Standards
  • Ability to operate a 16-Passenger Vehicle
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards related to Safety
  • Knowledge of Emergency Management and Preparation
  • Knowledge of how to handle public health emergencies for clients and employee safety
  • Knowledge of how to conduct audits and to work with regulators for compliance
  • Strong analytical skills are required, including ability to assess complex systems
  • Sound decision-making skills and excellent professional judgment, including ability to handle sensitive and confidential information on a daily and ongoing basis
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, including technical writing, interpersonal skills, and speaking to groups of employees
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines, including ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, organize, train, and implement.
  • Ability to receive ongoing safety and management training as required
