We are seeking a Cost Accountant to join our finance and accounting team and support the accurate recording and interpretation of accounting transactions consistent with approved and prescribed accounting practices, procedures, and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) requirements.
Position Overview
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for processing accounts payable, maintaining inventory records, analyzing work order costs, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone with a keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for cost accounting within a cooperative utility environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Inventory Management:
- Process invoices related to inventory, work orders, and assigned invoices.
- Monitor material activity and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Coordinate and assist with annual inventories and conduct monthly test counts.
- Assist as needed with daily preparation of jobs, issuance of materials, and the retirement and salvage of materials.
Work Order & Cost Analysis:
- Track and analyze costs associated with work orders to ensure accuracy.
- Review work order classifications and coding to ensure proper assignment of costs.
- Maintain and update standard unit costs and understand RUS construction and retirement units.
General Accounting & Compliance:
- Assist with accounting responsibilities for the subsidiaries of JCREMC.
- Maintain accurate financial records and support external audits.
- Assist and collaborate with generation of work plans or budgets as needed.
- Maintain and submit any necessary financial or data reporting requirements to appropriate regulatory or governmental agencies
- Understand RUS engineering specifications
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in accounting, business, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to reconcile financial data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally and work in both office and warehouse settings as needed.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Office-based role with occasional warehouse responsibilities.
- Hours are regularly scheduled Monday through Friday.
