PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager of Campus Security, the position is responsible for functioning as a Campus Security Officer (CSO) and providing leadership and expertise to the security team and administrative staff. The Lead CSO is responsible for coordinating safety, security, and logistical issues associated with monitoring and assessing school activities to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Perform all the duties of the Campus Security Officer and Campus Supervisor.

Ensure the implementation of building security strategies on a daily basis.

Create schedules for campus security officers and campus supervisors, ensuring security needs are met at school, District facilities, and school related functions.

Review all incident reports, documentation, and evidence collected by Campus Supervisors and/or CSOs. However, if time permits, before the campus security personnel submit the report to administrative staff and law enforcement.

Train all newly hired campus security and campus supervision personnel at their building or school assignment.

Provide leadership and act as a mentor to all campus security and campus supervision personnel at their assigned school and district training sites.

Work closely with the Manager of Campus Security and Campus Security Coordinator regarding safety preparedness (i.e. student/staff identification, drills, safety plans)

Communicate with all first responders, the Manager of Campus Security, Campus Security Coordinators, parents and others in crisis situations or medical emergencies.

Perform background research in collaboration with the Manager of Campus Security, Campus Security Coordinator, and/or Special Judicial Services on all new students who come in from group homes, who may be on probation/parole or who have known incidents from other schools.

Attend all security meetings at district and building level; reporting relevant information back to the Campus Security Coordinator and appropriate building level staff

Maintain a secure perimeter. Check and monitor all exterior doors. Document and log any and all problematic exterior entrances/exits to the Principal and Campus Security Coordinator.

Temporarily detain trespassers or law violators on-site until arrival of a law enforcement officer (when position permits).

Respond to alarms and dispatched calls; decide what actions to take based on situation, facts known and position limitations.

Act as a point of contact for teachers regarding students, the school and other issues pertaining to the safety and wellbeing related to the school site and students.

Assist school administration with conducting informational sessions for faculty, staff, and community members on security related issues and topics.

In coordination with the Manager of Campus Security, Campus Security Coordinator, and building administration, serve as a primary contact for appropriate Safe2Tell reports associated with the assigned location.

Work closely with the School Resource Officer, local law enforcement, as well as their corresponding K-9 units in the coordination of drug/bomb sweeps at the school location

When required, assist the School Resource Officer regarding any issues that come up at the school location.

When required, attend court hearings which are a direct result from a school related arrest.

Attend all building level threat assessments and coordinate with the Manager of Campus Security regarding district level threat assessment, suicide risk assessments, and/or expulsion hearings.

Perform other Campus Security Officer/Campus Supervisor duties as assigned by the Manager of Campus Security.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High School diploma/GED required, plus a minimum of one year of course work in the area(s) of criminal justice, sociology, psychology, communications, education, and/or child/youth development. Course work may be replaced by demonstrated experience and training reflective of the same knowledge and abilities. The position requires active certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI), First Aid/CPR/AED, and FEMA: Incident Command for Schools.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years' experience working directly in a criminal justice or security related field. It is preferred for the applicant to have experience working directly with youth. The position requires excellent skills in verbal communication, problem identification and problem solving, negotiation and mediation, and behavior modification and management.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of District Policies and Procedural Practices. Understanding of Student Code of Conduct. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships. Leadership and management skills. Ability to intervene in physical altercations and/or physically retrain individuals. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions under stressful situations. Ability to work well with a wide variety of people, including customer service and public relations skills. Lead Campus Security Officer should possess excellent problem identification and solving skills. Ability to perform the necessary responsibilities with the necessity of close supervision. Remarkable faithfulness and promptness with work attendance. The employee must be proficient with computer skills, common software, and familiar with District Video Surveillance Software, Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: First Aid/CPR/AED. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). Criminal background check required for hire. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License. FEMA - Incident Command for Schools Tactical Casualty Care (TCC).

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: Provides day-to-day direction to the Campus Security Officers/Campus Supervisors and may provide input to evaluations. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons at school site, parents, and others to resolve problems and negotiate controversial or confidential matters and with law enforcement personnel and the general public to furnish or obtain information.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Low exposure to self from disease from blood borne pathogens. Low exposure to self, students and public due to bruises, cuts, fractured bones from confrontation; burns (heat) from fire and hernia from confrontation. There is medium exposure to self from potential threats or responding to significant crisis events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to accurately and appropriately communicate verbally and in writing; make sound judgments; respond accurately and quickly to changing situations; and to evaluate, compile, coordinate, disseminate information, and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to compile incoming information and data, to assess possible solutions. The employee is frequently required to compare and analyze, occasionally required to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by the Manager of Campus Security, Campus Security Coordinator, self and the administrative staff. This position requires application of Board, school, and state/federal policies, procedures, and/or laws to maintain a safe learning environment; to quickly recognize dangerous/urgent situations, to recommend student disciplinary actions when necessary, to notify and coordinate with emergency personnel when required, and to adequately document incidents. Decision making requires collaboration with coworkers, administrative team, parents, and community agencies and members. Errors in decision making could compromise student safety and life if incidents are not responded to quickly and effectively. Must be able to make clear and concise decisions in a stressful and changing environment. The supervisor is occasionally involved in the decision making process.
