ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


Kendrick Lakes Elementary School (KLES), home of the Dolphins, is located in the Bear Creek Articulation Area of Jeffco Public Schools in Lakewood, Colorado. We are a proud recipient of the 2018 National Blue Ribbon Award. Our school serves a PK-5th grade student population of 420 students across 20 classrooms. We work to foster a joyful and academic learning environment where students are explicitly taught and celebrated to be respectful, responsible and safe humans. Our systemic Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) system contributes to our safe, consistent, and predictable learning environment as well as helps students understand themselves and the academic behaviors needed for growth and achievement. As professional educators, we address student and staff learning needs through a collaborative professional learning model. We use HMH Into Reading to provide structured literacy and written expression. We will be in our first year of implementing Illustrative Math this fall. Articulated Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) strategies, as well as strong data literacy understandings, guide our decision making and integrated practices. This position will work alongside our full-time Social and Emotional Learning Specialist (SEL) leader to build and implement student problem solving solutions. Interviews will take place at the beginning of January 2025.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Assist with the school wide implementation of strategies and programs designed to improve school culture by building healthy relationships; increase social capital; reduce the impact of harm; decrease antisocial behavior; and repair harm and restore relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Support students and teachers inside the classroom through observation, coaching, and modeling restorative language; debriefing with both teachers and individual students.

Monitor individual student behavior by checking in with students throughout the school day.

Facilitate mediations in response to conflict: among students; between educators and students; among educators; between family member and an educator; and among groups of students, educators, or family members.

Follow through after mediations to ensure the harm was repaired.

Develop creative interventions for students as part of the restorative resolution.

Inform families, educators, and administrators about incidents in school as needed, with the assistance of the Behavior Team.

Organize data to inform Behavior Team of any negative trends in school climate.

Push into classrooms to build relationships with students and teachers.

Organize school data to inform staff of any positive trends in school climate.

Gather testimonials of RP (restorative practices) success stories to improve staff and community buy-in.

Circulate the building to build and foster relationships with students and educators.

Use peace circles to build a sense of community.

Cultivate advocates for RP in educators, students, families, and community members.

Advocate for educators and students, especially in Behavior Team meetings.

Establish an avenue for educators and students to express concerns about the process.

Teach students techniques for resolving conflict.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years' related experience in counseling, or working on instructional improvement issues. Demonstrated experience working with students and parents from diverse backgrounds. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, phone etiquette, computer and office software; and general office equipment at time of hire. Must acquire training in Infinite Campus within 3 months of hire. Have the ability to interact well with parents, students and outside agencies.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: CPR training preferred.

SUPERVISON/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLITY: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position serves as a resource to other building personnel regarding restorative practices. Serve as resource assisting as a conduit for information sharing.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons within/outside department/building, students, and parents to resolve problems and maintain harmonious relationships. Contacts may involve somewhat sensitive matters involving problems and/or confidential information or data.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Potential exposure to bruises, bites, cuts, spitting, kicking, hitting and scratches. Gloves are provided to prevent exposure to bodily fluids

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to pass a CPI restraint class and utilize as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to analyze, coordinate, compile, evaluate, synthesize, and compute. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by the Principal. Duties are diversified and complex, and cross several areas regarding student conduct.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require cross training in office equipment including use of computers. This position requires communication skills, ability to work with groups of students and ability to work independently.
