VP, HR Business Partner - Investment Banking & Capital Markets

Role Description:

The Vice President, HR Business Partner (HRBP) for the Investment Banking Division will be responsible for aligning HR strategies with business objectives, drive talent management initiatives, and enhance organizational effectiveness. The successful candidate will be proactive, strategic, and deliver high-quality HR services, while maintaining the ability to take a hands-on approach within the Investment Banking and Capital Markets business, with a total population size of approximately 2,000 employees. The role is based in New York and reports to the Global Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets HR. The role encompasses both strategic and operational dimensions and will involve working closely with bankers in New York and various offices throughout the U.S., Canada, and Brazil, as well as our EMEA and APAC regions.

The HR Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor and will provide support to the business across the full range of HR disciplines including:

  • Performance Management - Work closely with line managers to ensure the performance feedback process is managed effectively. This includes but is not limited to: coaching managers to deliver effective mid-year and year-end reviews; providing on-going, real-time feedback throughout the year; guiding managers through difficult performance discussions; understanding employee skill gaps and work with managers to develop plans to improve performance; participating in relevant roundtables meetings and analyzing feedback to determine key performance themes as well as identifying high potential and future leaders.
  • Employee Relations - Take the lead in managing ER issues. Actively partner with Employment Legal Counsel on all employee relations issues to avoid and mitigate risk. This includes performance management issues, complaint handling, escalation, investigation procedures, and resolutions in a sensitive and timely manner.
  • Compensation - Conduct internal and external compensation benchmarking/analysis. Implement necessary system changes, update process documents, conduct audits, and complete other ad hoc requirements for the year-end compensation process.
  • Talent Development - Assess training and development needs and partner with Talent Development team to create and implement learning opportunities for all levels within the IB business.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Partner with our DEI team to foster an inclusive and diverse work environment. Actively participate in Employee Resource Group events to better understand each group’s mission and offer feedback to DEI team on how we can better recruit, retain, and empower diverse employees, as well as promote community outreach and engagement.
  • Recruitment (Lateral and Campus) - Partner with recruiting teams to assist with compensation packages and ensure consistency across roles and regions. Manage hiring approval processes. Ensure seamless on-boarding for all new hires.
  • Reporting - Focus on data integrity to ensure accurate reporting and analytics which will foster data-driven business decisions. Prepare various reports and data analytics in a digestible manner for IB senior leadership.
  • AI Integration - Leverage AI tools and technologies to enhance HR processes and use AI-driven insights to inform strategic decisions
  • Other - Manage ad-hoc projects as required. Assist with on-time implementation of all corporate HR initiatives, tailored appropriately to local requirements / business requirements. Manage immigration escalations for the client group.

Skills and Experience:

  • 7 years’ experience working in a global, highly matrixed Financial Services firm is essential.
  • Experience working with Investment Banking or other front office business.
  • Exposure across a broad HR remit including involvement in recruitment, performance management, talent management, promotions, retention, employee relations, compensation, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to gain credibility at all levels quickly; excellent relationship management skills.
  • Excellent client service focus.
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and proactively contributing ideas, views and recommendations for best practices and process improvement.
  • Ability to work independently with a high-level of accuracy and strong attention to detail, while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Pragmatic, results-driven and “can do” attitude is essential.
  • Strong focus on metrics and data analytics.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and distil information for management presentations.

  • HRIS experience – system navigation, data maintenance, reporting, etc.
  • Advanced Excel skills is a must – proficient with VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, Conditional Formatting, and other formulas (SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, MIN, MAX, Average Arrays, etc.).
  • Power BI a plus.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $130,000 - $150,000.

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
