The Medical Director for Youth Residential Recovery will provide medical oversight and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders for youth admitted to Youth Residential Recovery. Youth Residential Recovery (YRR) is the only ASAM level 3.5 program for adolescents ages 13-18.5 in Colorado. This position is approximately 20 hours a week of direct work, plus availability by phone / text 24 / 7. The direct work is on-site or a hybrid of on-site and remote. This position is salaried and includes the full benefit package of Jefferson Center, including health, dental and life insurance, paid holidays and Paid Annual Leave.

This role reports to the Chief Medical Officer and is also accountable to the Manager and Director of YRR. This role does not include management or supervision of other staff but does involve providing medical education to YRR staff.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required :

MD or DO degree
Successful completion of an emergency medicine or primary care residency and corresponding board certification
Experience working with acute and chronic medical conditions and substance use disorders in adolescents with co-occurring psychiatric disorders
Knowledgeable and current regarding general medicine, urgent care medicine, and evidence-based MAT
3-5 years experience in primary care, emergency medicine, and / or addictions medicine preferred
RN degree (or equivalent), Masters Degree in Nursing, FNP-BC, PNP-BC, or ENP-BC certification, Prescriptive Authority licensure by the Colorado Board of Nursing, and DEA certificate.
Experience working with acute and chronic medical conditions, and substance use disorders in adolescents with co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
3-5 years experience working in primary care, emergency medicine, and / or addictions medicine
Knowledgeable and current regarding general medicine, urgent care medicine, and evidence-based MAT

Essential Duties :

Medical consultation of active patients and 24 / 7 on call responsibility for admission decisions and medical concerns.

Act as consultant to admissions staff to help assess appropriateness of referrals.

Perform physical exams within 24 hours of admission.

Conduct clinic approximately 2-3 days a week. (Staff will compile a list of patients that want to be seen for chronic or urgent medical concerns.)

Triage patients’ medical concerns as emergent, urgent, or non-urgent, and ensure appropriate follow up.

Coordinate care with external providers as indicated.

Document medical evaluations and follow ups in the EHR within 24 hours of service.

Prescribe relevant medical and MAT medications, including continuing home medications and / or starting new medications if indicated. This includes entering medications in the EHR.

Communicate medical status updates and medication changes to staff.

Be informed of all abnormal medication events, including medication occurrence reports.

Be informed of vital sign abnormalities and advise staff on appropriate follow up.

Consult on protocols and workflows with the pharmacy.

Develop and ensure maintenance of Emergency Medication / AED Stations for the Youth Recovery Unit.

Update OTC MARs as necessary.

Periodic review of Vital Sign Parameters and flow chart.

Review and edit medical policies and procedures for YRR.

Give occasional presentations to staff on desired medical and MAT related topics.

Provide occasional vital sign and emergency medications training for staff.

Participate in relevant Critical Incident Reviews (CIRs) and other medical director functions as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.

Additional Duties :

Maintains an understanding of how trauma impacts the lives of the people being served, works to ensure that every interaction is consistent with the recovery process.

There may be other site or program specific responsibilities that are assigned by the CMO or the YRR Program Director or Manager.

Salary Grade 19 ( Nurse Practitioner.5 fte ) : $66,256.37 ($63.7081 / hr)

Salary Grade 24 ( MD or DO .5 fte ) : $105,900 ($101.826 / hr) to $128,000 ($123.076 / hr)
