Job Title - Supervisor of Communications
Supervisor: Director of Communications
Job Goals:
To enhance the public relations and communication of the Jefferson County School System through positive social media and multimedia management activities.
To assist with promoting student success and support for the school systems’ mission and goals.
To assist with planning, monitoring, implementing and oversight of communications for the school system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in journalism, public relations, or corporate communications. School public relations/communications experience preferred.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Proficiency in oral and written communication with the ability to produce and lead presentations through various data sources.
Ability to use technology for communication, presentations, data analysis, and reporting.
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
Assists in generating positive media coverage of the Jefferson County School System programs, services, and initiatives.
Promotes the school system’s strengths/achievements through various media.
Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
Serves as consultant to the professional staff and administrators on matters pertaining to communications.
In the director's absence, serves as information liaison between the school system and the community at large.
In the director's absence, serves as liaison officer between the system and the news media.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
Develops content for social media and district streaming platforms.
Monitors district social media channels and responds as needed or required.
Monitors graphics, layout, and content for district websites and social media channels.
Publicizes and promotes performances, exhibitions, displays, or special programs sponsored by the schools and open to the public.
Serves as the liaison between school-based technology leaders and district communication office.
Assists with district wide mass communications and crisis communications as needed and required.
Assists in developing and maintaining strategic communications plans and district branding.
Assists in organizing and facilitating various district advisory councils, as needed.
Models and maintains high ethical standards.
Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board Policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy of evaluation of personnel.
