Job Summary
The Supervisor, Safety & Security is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the safety and security team within the hospital setting. This includes managing security personnel, ensuring a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors, and enforcing hospital security policies and procedures. The Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing security incidents, and contributing to the development of emergency preparedness and response plans.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates the ongoing, organization-wide collection of information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in the Environment of Care.
- Coordinates the on-going collection and response to other sources of information, such as published hazard notices or recall reports.
- Coordinates the preparation of summaries of deficiencies, problems, failures and user errors related to managing the environment of care.
- Coordinates the preparation of summaries on findings, recommendations, actions taken and results of performance improvement (PI) activities.
- Participates in hazard surveillance and incident reporting.
- Participates in developing safety policies and procedures.
- Submits completed reports at least every other month to the Environment of Care (EC) Committee concerning findings, recommendations, actions and monitoring.
- Coordinates and/or participates in the development of departmental and facility wide safety policies and procedures.
- Conducts and reviews with Human Resources, EC education, Orientation program for new employees, and reviews on a continuing education basis for all employees.
- Reviews departmental EC policies and procedures to assist in making them consistent with the integrated into the facility-wide safety management plan.
- Works with other managers to assure each of the EC management plans are evaluated at least annually.
- Works with other managers to assure the objectives, scope, Performance, and effectiveness of each of the environment of care management plans are evaluated at least annually.
- Works with managers to initiate appropriate actions and recommendations, based on analysis of incident reports and other information. Ensures issues, chosen by the EC Committee, are monitored and the results reported to that committee.
- Conducts annual risk assessments and other assists other responsible managers in conducting risk assessments.
- Assists in defining performance indicators for evaluation of the Safety Management program and reports performance indicators of all areas of the EC, to the EC Committee.
- Assist Director with I/S support including maintaining operations and current information on the TMS.
- Acts as hospital liaison in all city coordinated emergency preparedness, meetings and drills. Active participant in hospital emergency preparedness, hazmat, and severe weather drills and actual events.
- Works with responsible individuals in conducting necessary drills that will improve the safety and security of the hospital such as infant abduction drill, emergency management drills that are based from a completed HVA, fire drills, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or GED required
- Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
- 2-4 years of experience in a healthcare security or safety role required
- 1-2 years of experience in supervisory or leadership position required

- Strong supervisory and management skills, with the ability to lead a diverse team of security professionals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with hospital staff, patients, visitors, and law enforcement.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies or security incidents, and to lead the team in resolving critical situations.
- Ability to focus on details and ensure all security protocols are followed accurately and consistently.
- Experience with security technologies, including video surveillance systems, access control systems, and alarm systems.
- Skilled in handling conflict and de-escalating situations in a hospital environment.
Licenses and Certifications
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State required
