Interpreter/Translator Laison
Position Description: The Interpreter and Translator Liaison is responsible for assisting the Director of ELL of the Academics Unit providing translations and interpreting for the school system. In addition, clerical tasks including purchasing and other tasks that help the unit run efficiently are performed.
Reports To: Director of English Language Learner Instruction
Scope of Responsibility:
- Performs some clerical and bookkeeping duties.
- Maintains phone contact, and handles district-wide correspondence and printing of materials between the department and the schools, as well as other administrative offices.
- Assists with budget components (purchasing, payroll, accounts payable, print shop, regular and carryover initial budgets and attendant revisions).
- Maintains list of all interpreters in the school system, including languages spoken and contact information.
- Coordinates yearly interpreter trainings, creating and updating trainings electronically, and maintaining documentation.
- Tests students for English proficiency when needed.
- Tests bilingual Para- professionals for bilingual proficiency.
- Translates documents and interprets for school system stakeholders.
- Maintains the website for the ESL Department, ESL Testing Centers and the Translation Services Webpage.
- Analyses data, designs and prepares reports on the computer.
- Maintains security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student and employee information and passwords that are issued for access to databases.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of ELL
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate in English and either Spanish, Vietnamese or Arabic both orally and in writing
