Position Description:
The head wrestling coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing the entire wrestling program, as well as providing leadership to wrestling personnel and student athletes.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive wrestling program that aligns with LHSAA, JPPSS, and Jefferson Parish School System guidelines
* Provide leadership and supervision to wrestling personnel and student athletes
* Maintain accurate records and reports as specified by LHSAA and JPPSS
* Schedule games and related activities
* Build sportsmanship and promote good public relations in the school and community
* Ensure student athletes have current physical exams and adequate insurance coverage
* Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel
* Represent the school at various functions
* Participate in professional development and acquire 36 Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year
Skills and Qualifications:
* Excellent communication skills in Standard English
* Ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication systems
* Ability to communicate successfully with students, parents, and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
* Ability to represent the school at various functions
* Ability to compile and access data, summarize information, and provide written reports
Minimum Qualifications:
* Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and/or CECP completion
* CDL Class B or above with P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
* Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
* Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
* Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and competency in basic wrestling fundamentals
* Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for wrestling
* Expertise, knowledge, and competency in conditioning of athletes sport-specific
Desirable Qualifications:
* Previous playing experience in wrestling (college or university level)
* Previous coaching experience in wrestling (junior varsity, junior high/middle school, or recreation activity level)
* Expertise, knowledge, and competency in first aid for wrestling injuries
Physical Involvement:
* Standing, running, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting are required
* Ability to demonstrate athletic techniques and physically transfer or position athletes as required
* Ability to move heavy athletic equipment
* Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
