RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential role of the Summer Camp Site Director is responsible for the care and operation of the program. Programincludes Camp and Camp Before & After Care.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain accurate records including staffing hours, attendance for campers and staff, weeklyrevenues, field trip designations and funds, medical information, daily operations of camp and campclose-out report.
2. Maintain CPR, First – Aid and Medication Certification
3. Follows and implements discipline standards based on the policies of School System and the Community Programs Department.
4. Must have basic fundamental knowledge of computers, including excel program and emailing.
5. Communicates with parents regarding child’s participation, behavior, and/or needs.
6. Handle accounting responsibilities if camp account clerk is absent.
7. Report any thefts of Summer Camp monies to the Principal and the Finance Department.
8. Cooperates with school-based personnel and Community Program personnel.
9. Responsible for setting staff schedules and arranging for substitutes for absent camp workers.
10. Develops camp activities and routines
11. Provides own transportation for work related responsibilities
12. Assist physically challenged students, including restrooms
13. Performs all other duties assigned by the Comm. Programs, Finance Dept. and/or principal.
14. Emails staff sign-in for payroll on Friday afternoons.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / HOURS WORKED:
The School Based Summer Camp Program and Camp Before/After Care Site Director will work in a school setting, climate controlled environment and in outside areas which are subject to climate extremes. Work day consists of hours at assigned by Comm. Programs. Excessive absences could lead to suspensions and/or termination.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must be able to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Must have ability to accurately give and receive information and must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, parents and school personnel.
EQUIPMENT USEMENT:
Computer, telephone, fax machine, calculator, copy machine, printers, and other appropriate office machines
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
Ability to operate office equipment, standing ,bending, stooping, participating, walking, and lifting up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Must have sufficient mobility to move to various locations on the school site.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions. Must keep accurate, up-to-date records and give precise instructions. Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations and Community Program guidelines. Must be able to utilize
effective classroom management technique.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
Must be able to work cooperatively with students, parents and school personnel. Must be able to respond positively to supervisionand to accept suggestions for improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalency Experience working Summer Camp with children
Age 21 or older Experience managing adults
Satisfactory performance in interview
Experience with computers, Microsoft Excel and email
ADDITIONAL CAMP STAFF RESPONSIBILITY
Camp Director - Review, then have each camp staff member sign, Responsibility Form and
Additional Camp Responsibility form. Please keep both original forms on file at your site.
1. A work schedule has been made by the camp director according to hours assigned by
Comm. Programs. Camp directors will assign each staff member their time accordingly.
Employee's hours are based on camper participation and can be reduced if
participation decreases. Either the camp director or camp acct. clerk must be at site at all
times.
2. Staff must follow and participate with camp duties such as crafts, inside and outside
games, play and field trips
3. Staff must not gather or sit in groups talking instead of assisting/monitoring camper.
Please be alert at all times.
4. Extreme loud talking and yelling is NOT ACCEPTABLE or necessary.
5. Only the camp director (or acct. clerk if director is not present) is responsible to discuss
issues or problems with the parent. (NEVER discuss problems in ear shot of other parents
6. All camp staff is expected to change any child with soiled clothing if additional clothing is
available.
7. Excessive tardiness or absences will be documented, to determine dismissal from the
program. Staff is not allowed to make-up lost hours due to absences.
8. Notify camp director as soon as possible when an absence is necessary.
9. The use of cell phones/texting/wearing blue tooth is strictly prohibited. Phone calls can
be made through the camp site phone, limit calls to 2 minutes.
10. Staff should wear tennis shoes at all times. No halter tops, spaghetti straps, tank tops,
flip flops or open toe shoes are allowed. Staff that reports to work in inappropriate attire will
be sent home for the remainder of the day.
11. All staff should be familiar with Camp Manual/Regular will all the rules in the camp
manual and parent camp manual
12. All staff is responsible to make sure only one child is in the bathroom at a time. A staff
member must be on duty outside of the bathroom during group bathroom breaks.
13. NO STAFF IS TO WORK OVER FORTY (40) HOURS PER WEEK DURING
REGULAR WEEKS OF CAMP. No staff is to work more than 32 hours the week of the 4th
of July Holiday. Camper participation determines staffing needs.
