What are the responsibilities and job description for the COMPUTER SYSTEMS SPECIALIST (1258) position at Jefferson Parish?
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to install software applications, upgrades, and patches or hardware on the LAN, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary. Employee in this position performs workstation-related set-ups by using a keyboard to install software or troubleshoot. Maintains an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software being used by the library to provide high-level support to library staff and customers. Adds and maintains users on the network; assigns application access, ensuring security and configurations are within standards. Updates operating system and manages memory usage, network printing, and technical resources. Monitors cables and ensures reliable connectivity to the network by visually inspecting connectivity between the computer and the wall jack. Installs workstations and printers; physically moves equipment as requested or needed. Tasks require the ability to stoop, bend, twist, turn, and move computer equipment from place to place in the library. The position requires driving a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
I. At least two (2) years of paid work experience (within the last four years) as a personal computer technician, providing customer service in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of networked PC hardware, printers, and software (including all components necessary for connectivity to central systems via Ethernet, coaxial, twisted pair wiring, wireless networking, and modem remote access) within Windows environments.
II. Possession of an active A Certification or successful completion of at least nine (9) college credit hours in Computer Network Technology, Computer Science, or closely related; PLUS, at least one (1) year of paid work experience (within the last four years), as described in Option I.
III. Possession of an accredited Associate’s degree with at least eighteen (18) credit hours in Computer Network Technology, Computer Science, or closely related.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral interview, or any combination thereof. The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
