EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.The purpose of this position is to operate electric unit pump stations and trains at diesel engine operated stations to maintain canals at required elevations. May operate various machinery and equipment including electric motors, vacuum pumps, bobcats, grass mowers, generators, compressors, valves, gates. Responsibilities include seeing that trash and debris are removed from trash screens and are during/after pumping. Climbs ladders, platforms, and equipment such as diesel engines, to operate blow-down valves, check large radiators and operate elevated valves. Assists lead workers and skilled maintenance personnel in more complex tasks. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference. NOTE: Operators may be required to work on a shift basis, be available on an "on-call" basis during their off-hours, and be assigned to any facility (East or West) as necessary.

Sufficient, verifiable work experience involving the operation of electric motors and switches.
OR
Verifiable completion of a technical/trade career training program (or college degree/certificate program) demonstrating familiarity with electric motors and switches.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing.
