What are the responsibilities and job description for the DRAINAGE PUMP STATION OPERATOR II (2601) position at Jefferson Parish?
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL FOUR (4) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AND ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.Operates and maintains large, vertical and horizontal drainage pumps, angle gears and stationary diesel engines. Pump sizes are from 36' to 12' in diameter; diesel engines are from 100 to 3500 horsepower and electric motors are up to 800 h.p. Operates generators, compressors, valves and gates, and related equipment. Maintains water intake levels. Responsible for all record keeping related to operation and maintenance activities. Assists Stationary Diesel Specialist in major repairs and may supervise subordinates in pump station operations. Performs other related duties as required.
Note: Operators may be required to work on a shift basis, be available on an "on-call" basis during their off-hours, and be assigned to any facility (East or West) as necessary. This positions is also an essential, emergency duty status position and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
