EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and the successful completion of sixty (60) hours of coursework from an accredited college or university with twenty-four (24) of those hours being in relevant fields to include: human resources, management, business administration, psychology, research, statistics, or a related field; PLUS, substantial (approximately two or more years) experience performing varied, complex clerical work to include the (i) preparation of correspondence or informational reports, (ii) updating of spreadsheets or databases, and/or (iii) processing and routing of financial, payroll, or personnel-related paperwork.
Substitution: An active HR-focused professional certification, such as the PHR or SHRM-CP, may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience in Option I or III.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
A written test, weighted 100%, will be administered. The test is designed to measure basic grammar skills; reading comprehension ability; knowledge of civil service personnel practices related to classification and pay, recruitment, and employment examinations; and knowledge of basic statistics relevant to employment selection (i.e., descriptive statistics, reliability, validity). Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time, and place of the written examination.

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform varied personnel work in one of the following areas: Recruitment/Examination, Classification and Pay, or Certification. Employees in this classification perform specialized entry-level personnel work. In the area of Certification, the position is responsible for the maintenance of the Jefferson Parish Civil Service employment registers and the processing of personnel transaction forms. In the area of Recruitment/Examination, the position is responsible for preparation of examination announcements, the review of job applications, corresponding with applicants, proctoring examinations, and the construction and scoring of tests. In the area of Classification and Pay, the position is responsible for study and analysis of jobs for proper class allocation, preparing class specifications, reviewing of personnel transaction forms, conducting wage and salary surveys, and the preparing of various reports. Performs related work as required. After satisfactory completion of probation and attainment of knowledge and ability to work without close supervision, reallocation to the journeyman level class, Personnel Technician II, is permissible. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
