Jefferson RISE Charter School, founded by seven community members in 2014, will serve 760 students in grades 6-12 for the 2024-2025 school year. Located in Harvey, Louisiana, the school caters to a diverse student body from the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, consisting of 52% Black/African American, 30% White, 16% Hispanic, and 2% Asian students, with 92% qualifying as economically disadvantaged.

With a SPS increase of over 17 points, RISE’s HS earned a B and RISE’s MS earned a C.


POSITION OVERVIEW


Jefferson Rise Charter School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Education Self-Contained Teacher to join our team. This teacher will be responsible for teaching one period of math to our middle school self-contained class and one period of math to our high school self-contained class. As a lead teacher you are responsible for lesson planning and any accommodations that may be needed. Additionally, the teacher will push into a high school math class to provide extra support to students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs). The ideal candidate will be committed to the academic growth and development of students with special needs, ensuring they receive high-quality, individualized instruction. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for advancing the mission of Jefferson RISE through the development and execution of a standards-aligned curriculum, continuous improvement of instructional practices, and active participation in school-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:


  1. Instructional Responsibilities:
    • Teach one period of math to middle school students in a self-contained classroom setting.
    • Teach one period of math to high school students in a self-contained classroom setting.
    • Provide push-in support to a high school math class to assist students with IEPs.
  2. Curriculum and Lesson Planning:
    • Develop and deliver standards-aligned math curriculum and lessons tailored to the needs of students in self-contained settings.
    • Collaborate with general education math teachers to modify and adapt lesson plans for students with special needs.
  3. Student Support and Accommodations:
    • Implement and monitor accommodations and modifications as outlined in students' IEPs.
    • Utilize data-driven strategies to support the academic progress and achievement of students.
  4. Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff in the Special Education department to ensure cohesive and comprehensive support for students.
    • Participate in professional development sessions and coaching to enhance instructional practices and stay current with best practices in special education.
  5. Communication with Families:
    • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and IEP meetings.
    • Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians to support student success.
  6. Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure that all student are receiving their accommodations 
    • Conduct regular assessments and document student progress and achievements.
  7. Accountability and Growth:
    • Be accountable for high performance and growth, student achievement, and quality of instructional practice
    • Contribute to the overall success of Jefferson RISE Charter School by engaging in school-wide initiatives and activities.

Administrative

    • Analyze student achievement data in collaboration with team members 
    • Implement data tracking system and use data to inform instructional development and delivery
    • Enter in student performance data in a timely manner
    • Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines

    • Embody and teach the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the school
    • Design and implement programs that promote positive student behavior, and that motivate students to exhibit the leadership values of the school
    • Build classroom community by investing families in students’ academic success and development of strong character and leadership traits 


    CANDIDATE PROFILE


    Education and Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree required 
    • Degree in content area (preferred)
    • Content area certification (preferred)


    Experience and Skills:

    • Technological proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as other web-based applications
    • Excellent communication skills
    • High level of personal organization and planning
    • Proven track record of student achievement and/or growth

    SALARY & BENEFITS


    The salary range for this position is $40,000-$55,000 per year. RISE employees are paid twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.


    Jefferson RISE pays the following employee-only benefit costs for all full-time employees: coverage 85% of medical premiums and 100% of dental, vision, short and long term disability premiums. The Employee covers the remaining costs, including 15% employee medical and all spouse/dependent costs. RISE provides a 401(k) retirement plan to all W-2 employees, including a match of up to 100% of contributions on the first 3% deferred, then 50% of contributions from 3% to 5%. There is no vesting period. Jefferson RISE reserves the right to offer different or additional benefits to the Employee at any time.
