Position Summary

Salary: Based on education and experience commensurate with Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule D1 ($46,590-$94,363). This is a nine-month position. Summer employment may be available (an additional $14,384-$29,184) dependent upon enrollment.

This position includes all responsibilities outlined in the Instructor Job Description as well as the additional responsibilities stated below related to classroom and clinical instruction of nursing students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for instruction in the appropriate teaching environment(s) and evaluates student learning.

2. Responsible for class and laboratory preparation.

3. Participate in curriculum development and evaluation, and recommend new or revised curriculum.

4. Provide academic advising to students.

5. Perform department/program responsibilities.

6. Perform institutional responsibilities which contribute to the fulfillment of the college’s mission.

7. Follow institutional policies and procedures and fulfill the terms of one’s employment.

In addition to those essential job functions defined in the Instructor Job Description, a full-time nurse faculty member must also fulfill the following job functions:

1. Professionally fulfill the role of nursing instructor in clinical affiliates, including planning for clinical experiences, developing patient assignments, and supervising, instructing and evaluating students.

2. Regularly revise lecture notes and course materials to insure currency and compliance with departmental and/or college formats or guidelines.

3. Comply with contractual requirements of clinical affiliates utilized for assigned nursing course laboratories.

4. Participate in the regular evaluation of the nursing education program, including self-studies and other activities to document program status.

5. Collaborate with other nurse faculty to maintain the continuity of the curriculum.

6. Promote effective working relationships among course faculty.

7. Maintain licensure as a registered nurse in good standing in the State of Alabama, including compliance with mandatory continuing education requirements.

8. Maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the health care provider level.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree
  • A minimum of three years of experience in clinical nursing practice preferred. Evidence of current expertise in nursing education.
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the health care provider level required from American Heart Association

  • Fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination are sufficient to safely fulfill clinical responsibilities.
  • Auditory ability is sufficient to communicate effectively with others, to monitor and assess patient status, and to fulfill clinical responsibilities.
  • Visual ability is sufficient to monitor and assess patient status and to fulfill clinical responsibilities.
  • Tactile ability and sense of smell are sufficient to assess patients and the environment.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)
Law Enforcement Officers:
Tier I-Pays 8.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II- Pays 7.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.
