SUMMARY OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION: Under direct supervision, the Group Lead position(s) perform repetitive, but more specialized tasks and leadership roles of increased responsibility in production support operations using hand tools, associated machinery, equipment, including inspection equipment, to assist in the manufacturing and assembly of JELD-WEN products.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Group Lead personnel assist in every facet of the operation, as directed by management, to achieve the goals and objectives of JELD-WEN products as written above, and are involved in every phase of production from beginning to end; This position will assist and guide in their respective roles in plant operations. Top level Group Lead personnel may prepare written requisitions for the JELD-WEN product line; review drawings, memos and other documentation. They may have to account for all finished and unfinished products and materials. Will repair products; Will guide and assist warehouse personnel and support staff; Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to appropriate plant personnel including, but not limited to, direct supervisor, or quality control personnel; Maintain the work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations per plant policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; This includes, but is not limited to, the use of safety glasses, ear plugs, masks, steel toed boots/shoes, and associated safety equipment in order to be on the plant floor and assemble the product, and perform the job duties in a safe and efficient/effective manner; Reports unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision; Performs other duties as assigned by management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative, but not all inclusive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally and/or frequently lift and/or move stock, materials and unfinished and finished production-oriented materials in and near their work areas that weigh between 10 and 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and machines, vibrations and loud noises. All safety protocols including OSHA guidelines as mentioned above are mandatory.
KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ESSENTIAL SKILLS: High School Diploma or GED; Three (3) to five (5) years of increasingly responsible hands on experience in production support at JELD-WEN or a comparable manufacturing environment required; Courses or certifications in leadership and production support desired; Must possess strong oral and written communication skills; Must be able to perform intermediate math skills and fundamental computer skills; the ability to use specialized tools, test rigs and gauges in the inspection of the product line; The ability to operate forklift, pallet jacks, high lift, hand truck, inventory ladder and associated equipment; Must be able to Lead and train personnel on basic processes and equipment; Execute process steps according to defined SOP’s; Evaluate self-work to insure compliance with work instructions and standards; The ability to perform Entry and Mid-Level, repetitive type production support functions using hand or power tools, and applicable machinery, equipment, and inspection equipment to assist in the assembly of the JELD-WEN product line while following written and oral instructions to support same; Places materials and parts in specified relationship to each other; Must have excellent hand eye coordination; Excellent communications skills; Technical capacity, problem solving/analysis; The ability and motivation to learn; The ability to work in a manufacturing and fast paced environment; Very energetic and enthusiastic; Reliable transportation, punctual and dependable; Responsible attitude; Team player; Results driven; Must be able to work overtime as needed.
