GENERAL SUMMARY AND POSITION PURPOSE
To perform clerical and / or scheduling functions for The Jena Band of Choctaw Health Department. To be the first point of contact for tribal members whether by phone, email and / or face to face. To process and reconcile accounts to ensure proper remittance to various vendors. Also, to act as an outreach position that will be responsible for helping members to navigate and access community services and other resources. This position will act as an advocate for both individuals and community health needs. This person shall offer friendly, courteous, and confidential service / assistance to members to ensure that they have a positive experience from our departmental services.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, REQUIRED SKILLS, AND BACKGROUND CHECKS)
Qualifications :
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Knowledge and / or ability to learn the Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) functions to obtain appropriate information, maintain / edit client and provider information, schedule / cancel appointments, and make payments to accounts.
- Knowledge of the Privacy Act and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act required as the use of the client's medical record is an integral part of this position and the privacy of the individuals must be protected to the fullest.
- Tribes and Tribal organizations can employ only individuals who meet standards of character that are no less stringent than those prescribed by the regulations outlined at 42 C.F.R. § 136.404, and only after an individual has been the subject of a satisfactory background investigation as described in 42 C.F.R. § 136.406, which includes a review of :
- a) The individual's trustworthiness, through inquiries into the individual's references and places of employment and education;
- b) A criminal history background check, which includes a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check, and inquiries to State and Tribal law enforcement agencies for the previous five years of residence listed on an individual's application;
- c) A determination as to whether the individual has been found guilty of or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to any felonious offense or any two or more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact, or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children.
- High School Diploma and HiSET Equivalency.
- Must have knowledge of billing / accounting practices.
- Must have 3 years of proven experience in a similar role.
- Experience in administration is preferred.
- Must be reliable and courteous.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Native American history and heritage.
- Valid driver's license. (Required)
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- No certifications or licenses needed.

JOB LOCATION
This position shall be located at the JBCI Health Clinic in Trout, Louisiana. This position requires reasonable travel for training, consultation with medical and social services providers, and to provide services for tribal members.
