QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Professional Educator License with Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
  2. Experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Services helpful but not required.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

 

POSITION GOAL: To aid students in the correction or elimination of speech, hearing, and/or language difficulties in order to further their total development.  

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop an overall yearly and regular interval program including tentative screening and beginning therapy dates.
  2. Screen and provide services  for speech and language problems using an acceptable and proven method of testing.
  3. Serve as a resource to staff members in the development of a balanced program.
  4. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  5. Accept and process referrals from classroom teachers, parents, and other sources.
  6. Make referrals to appropriate professionals or agencies.
  7. Provide appropriate individua1ized program of therapy to meet individual needs and

correct existing speech or language handicaps.

  1. Identify particular communicative disorders and select students who would benefit

from speech and/or language therapy.

  1. Schedule students for speech therapy.
  2. Keep current informative file on each student including test results, goals, techniques

used, progress reports, and previous therapy methods and results.

  1. Assess progress periodically through acceptable means and update files accordingly.
  2. Devise and send periodic progress reports for use by classroom teachers and parents, including suggestions for speech work in class and at home.
  3. Strive to improve upon professional abilities by keeping informed of new materials, techniques and theories.
  4. Maintain a list of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of

outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.

  1. Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are defined appropriate.
  2. Schedules and participates in IEP meetings as requested by parents, teachers, students, or administration.
  3. Participate in Team Recommendation meetings.
  4. Conduct student evaluations as part of a comprehensive case study.
  5. Conduct student re-evaluations as required by law.
  6. Evaluate students based upon screening results and referrals from teachers, parents, and physicians.
  7. Participate in early childhood screenings.
  8. Write and communicate summary reports regarding evaluation results, eligibility for services, and recommendations for school-based therapy.
  9. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and district policy.
  10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  11. Maintain communication with parents regarding progress of assigned students.
  12. Attend staff meetings as directed by the principal or special education/early childhood coordinator.
  13. Communicate and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, students, parents, and other staff.
  14. Acquire appropriate number of continuing education units for continued licensure in Illinois.
  15. Obtain and maintain appropriate certification in crisis intervention as directed by principal, superintendent, or special education coordinator.
  16. Perform physical restraint of students when necessary.
  17. Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information about students.
  18. Perform other duties to provide speech and language services as assigned by the principal, superintendent, or special education/early childhood coordinator.
