QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Educator License with Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
- Experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Services helpful but not required.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
POSITION GOAL: To aid students in the correction or elimination of speech, hearing, and/or language difficulties in order to further their total development.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop an overall yearly and regular interval program including tentative screening and beginning therapy dates.
- Screen and provide services for speech and language problems using an acceptable and proven method of testing.
- Serve as a resource to staff members in the development of a balanced program.
- Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
- Accept and process referrals from classroom teachers, parents, and other sources.
- Make referrals to appropriate professionals or agencies.
- Provide appropriate individua1ized program of therapy to meet individual needs and
correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Identify particular communicative disorders and select students who would benefit
from speech and/or language therapy.
- Schedule students for speech therapy.
- Keep current informative file on each student including test results, goals, techniques
used, progress reports, and previous therapy methods and results.
- Assess progress periodically through acceptable means and update files accordingly.
- Devise and send periodic progress reports for use by classroom teachers and parents, including suggestions for speech work in class and at home.
- Strive to improve upon professional abilities by keeping informed of new materials, techniques and theories.
- Maintain a list of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of
outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
- Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are defined appropriate.
- Schedules and participates in IEP meetings as requested by parents, teachers, students, or administration.
- Participate in Team Recommendation meetings.
- Conduct student evaluations as part of a comprehensive case study.
- Conduct student re-evaluations as required by law.
- Evaluate students based upon screening results and referrals from teachers, parents, and physicians.
- Participate in early childhood screenings.
- Write and communicate summary reports regarding evaluation results, eligibility for services, and recommendations for school-based therapy.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain communication with parents regarding progress of assigned students.
- Attend staff meetings as directed by the principal or special education/early childhood coordinator.
- Communicate and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, students, parents, and other staff.
- Acquire appropriate number of continuing education units for continued licensure in Illinois.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate certification in crisis intervention as directed by principal, superintendent, or special education coordinator.
- Perform physical restraint of students when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information about students.
- Perform other duties to provide speech and language services as assigned by the principal, superintendent, or special education/early childhood coordinator.
