Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring accurate billing and coding of medical records, which is crucial for the financial health of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and the billing process, with a commitment to maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

This job starts as part-time and has the opportunity to go full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems.
  • Review and analyze medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy for billing purposes.
  • Process medical billing claims, including submission to insurance companies and follow-up on unpaid claims.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in patient records or billing information.
  • Conduct medical collections as necessary, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Utilize various systems for managing patient information and billing processes effectively.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare laws and regulations that may affect billing practices.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in medical records management and understanding of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with medical coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, and related coding standards.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology relevant to diagnoses and procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance representatives.
  • Certification in Medical Billing or Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is a plus but not required.
