Job Description
Position: Day Suspension Educator
School Year: 2025-26
Job Summary
The day suspension educator reports directly to the Alternative School Principal and monitors student behavior, assists
students with assignments, and maintains student suspension records. Working collaboratively within professional
learning communities to build curricula and establish common assessments is required. Additionally, having
knowledge of data-driven, research based pedagogical approaches to instruction and learning is strongly desired.
Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RtI), new Illinois Learning Standards, Next Generation Learning Standards,
technology integration, and methods of differentiation is necessary. Previous experience is preferred but would
strongly consider a candidate with the necessary credentials without experience who is highly motivated, exceptional
in disposition (caring, compassionate, patient, etc.), and extremely dedicated to the academic and social growth of all
students. The educator in this position reports to the building principal, special education coordinator, and special
education director.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
- Establish and maintain an effective relationship with students assigned to the classroom, parents, and peers.
- Motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to ensure effective learning.
- Maintain a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
- Use effective classroom management techniques.
- Maintain appropriate records and files of completed assignments.
- Assist the administration in the compiling of teacher assignments for students assigned to day suspension

- Observe and monitor students’ progress and social behavior and report to administrators, teachers, and
- Check student work, review progress, and report to the teacher.
- Accompany students to and from buses and supervise lunch period.
- Provide discipline as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The professional educator MUST possess an Illinois Professional Educator License.
Physical Demands
The qualified candidate must have no physical limitations. The candidate must be able to lift. Additionally, the
candidate will be trained and must be able to participate in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) model of behavior
management. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking,
and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to
risk of injury and/or illness.
