The mission of Jesuit Refugee Service/USA (JRS/USA) is to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and forcibly displaced persons. JRS works in over 58 countries worldwide to meet the educational, health, psycho-social, and emergency needs of more than 1.5 million refugees and other forcibly displaced persons regardless of race, ethnic origin, or religious beliefs.
Job Description
As a key member of the JRS/USA management team, the Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (VP of Finance and CFO) will report to the President and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the organization. The VP of Finance and CFO will be responsible for oversight of accounting and reporting systems and activities, including functional responsibility over accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budget development and analysis. They will work closely with the VP of Development, who oversees JRS/USA’s fundraising efforts, and the VP of Operations, who oversees grant compliance and monitoring and daily operations. The VP of Finance and CFO will lead all day-to-day finance operations of a budget of $34 million and supervise a growing finance and accounting team. The VP of Finance and CFO is a full- time position based in Washington, DC.
The VP of Finance and CFO will ensure that JRS/USA has the financial and accounting systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation, meet donor reporting requirements, and conduct flawless audits. They will work closely with the management team and across departments, in particular with Development and Operations to ensure an effective and efficient financial system.
Responsibilities
· Manages the financial operations of the organization providing leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team.
· Oversees the organizations financial IT systems ensuring efficient, effective, timely and reliable financial information.
· Manages the treasury function of the organization providing oversight to all banking and investment relationships. Implements appropriate investment strategies considering cash and liquidity risks.
· Oversees internal and external financial reporting ensuring compliance with accounting standards, laws, and governmental and donor regulations and requirements.
· Monitors the cash flow and financial performance of the organization analyzing financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions.
· Oversees and manages the budgeting and financial planning functions of the organization which include, but are not limited to, grant budgets, organizational budgets, forecasts and long-term planning.
· Identifies, monitors and assesses current and potential financial risks and opportunities across the organization and proposes actionable solutions.
· Reviews all formal finance, HR, IT, grant and contractual policies and procedures. Develops, communicates and enforces Finance and Accounting and Internal Control policies and procedures.
· Oversees all organizational internal and external audits and tax reporting.
· Reports to and supports the Finance & Audit Committee of the board of directors.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
· Minimum 12 years of experience in a financial leadership role with increasing responsibility, preferably in the non-profit sector.
· Experience with the Sage Intacct accounting system preferred.
· Experience with U.S. Government federal awards and indirect costs.
· Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
· Knowledge of accounting standards for U.S. non-profit organizations, A-133 federal audit requirements, and Uniform Guidance Standards.
· A track record in overseas grants management, as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants, is essential.
· Experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software (preferable Sage Intacct or other similar accounting software).
· Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.
· Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills, which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board, and other partners.
· Ability to communicate and develop key working relationships remotely with international colleagues in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
· Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
· Willing and able to travel to JRS program sites, as needed.
· Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of Spanish or French is an asset.

Salary Range: $154,000-$210,000/annually
